Kristianna Moralls, Executive Director of the Self-Determination Institute (SDI) and parent of a Self-Determination Program (SDP) participant, provided public comment at the Senate hearing in support of continued funding for Local Volunteer Advisory Committee (LVAC) meetings. She emphasized that true self-direction means communities must have a voice in identifying the supports, outreach, and solutions that best meet local needs. LVACs play a critical role in helping individuals and families understand, enroll in, and successfully access the Self-Determination Program through community-driven education, outreach, and collaboration. Moralls also raised concerns that DDS has no stated plan to use the proposed reallocated funding to reduce disparities in access or participation, despite these funds historically supporting local equity and outreach efforts for underserved communities.
