Drinking more water doesn't always solve dehydration. Sometimes it makes the swelling worse.
Water moves into cells through osmosis, pulled in by the concentration of minerals inside the cell. Without enough minerals, water has nowhere to go. It stays in the tissue spaces instead, which is why so many people deal with puffiness in the feet, ankles, and fingers despite drinking plenty of water throughout the day.
Sweat doesn't just remove water. It removes minerals, including sodium, magnesium, and potassium. Most sports drinks replace almost none of what is actually lost, which is why people often reach for caffeine or energy drinks afterward, mistaking mineral depletion for low energy.
A simple starting point is a quarter teaspoon of a mineral-rich sea salt in each liter of water, alongside magnesium, potassium, and trace minerals. All of which can be found at rnareset.com.
