A caring relationship helps a child feel safe to try, confident to share, and certain they belong. At Energy Express, these connections grow through reading, art, play, and shared meals. Their impact is in what children come to believe about themselves: My voice matters. I can learn. I have something to offer.

“Stated simply, relationships are the active ingredients of the environment's influence on healthy human development. They incorporate the qualities that best promote competence and well-being. . . Relationships engage children in the human community in ways that help them define who they are, what they can become, and how and why they are important to other people.”

Energy Express sites have impacted many communities across West Virginia. Let's take a closer look at how the Wood County Site Team made an impact.

The team replaced damaged playground borders, refreshed basketball court lines, added a four-square court, and completed cleaning and maintenance projects at two schools. Their persistence in difficult summer heat created safer, more welcoming spaces used by hundreds of children, families, and school staff.

Do you remember the wonder of reaching for something that seemed impossibly big?

A bubble can be enormous, shimmering, delicate, or fleeting. Each new word gives a child another way to describe what they notice, ask what they wonder, and share what they imagine.

A growing vocabulary gives children more than new words. It gives them more ways to understand, question, explain, and create. That is why language and vocabulary are woven throughout the Energy Express day, including moments filled with simple joy
and a little summer magic.
