Last week, members of our Specialty Pharmacy and Ambulatory Care teams attended the ASHP Pharmacy Futures Conference, where pharmacy professionals from across the country gathered to discuss the innovations, challenges, and opportunities shaping the future of patient care.

The conference provided valuable opportunities for learning and collaboration through sessions focused on artificial intelligence, legal considerations in specialty pharmacy, workforce transformation, and emerging trends in healthcare. Team members also connected with colleagues across the industry to discuss the evolving specialty pharmacy landscape, including cell and gene therapies, market access strategies, and data reporting expectations.

During the conference, Amelia Hartzell presented a poster session and engaged with specialty pharmacy professionals from across the country, exchanging ideas and best practices that support continued advancement in patient care.

We are grateful for opportunities like Pharmacy Futures that allow our team to learn, collaborate, and bring new knowledge back to the patients and providers we serve.

May is Asthma & Allergy Awareness Month, a time to recognize the importance of specialized, accessible care for patients living with these conditions. 💙

At WVUH Specialty Pharmacy & Home Infusion, our specialty pharmacists provide high touch clinical support and expertise for complex asthma and allergy therapies often unavailable through traditional retail pharmacies. From symptom monitoring and therapy management to prior authorizations and copay assistance, our team works to help patients access the treatments they need with fewer barriers.

We are also continuing to expand our specialty pharmacy services into the Hereditary Angioedema (HAE) space, offering dedicated adherence support, proactive monitoring and personalized education to help patients better manage this rare and unpredictable condition.

We remain committed to improving patient outcomes through compassionate, patient centered care every step of the way.

Please join us in congratulating Thomas Deavers on passing his Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) exam! 👏

Thomas joined WVUH Specialty Pharmacy & Home Infusion on March 31, 2025, as an Operations Pharmacy Technician I and is already preparing to transition into the role of Operations Pharmacy Technician II following this accomplishment.

The PTCB certification is a nationally recognized credential that demonstrates a pharmacy technician’s knowledge, dedication, and commitment to supporting safe and effective patient care. Passing the exam was a goal Thomas set for himself when he first started, and one he is proud to have achieved.

When asked about his favorite memory so far, Thomas shared that it has been “meeting all of the people I work with on a daily basis and becoming one of the team.”

Outside of work, Thomas says he is “a collector of hobbies and useless trivia,” which certainly keeps things interesting!
