Vacation is over! What a wonderful, productive two weeks it has been. I have accomplished most of the things I had on my list, and now I must implement the rest of them. Time is a tough slave master in many ways, it runs through our fingers like water, we can’t stop it, but it is a powerful reminder that we won’t live forever and so we don’t want to waste it. I still have much to do! I think you do too!

I have been remiss in keeping up with my Turn Back Time with Joy business page. I have so much to say about life, health, and fitness, but it has gotten put on the back burner because my time and energy have been focused on my everyday physical work out classes. I love what I do! I have the best students in the world, and I love working out with them, watching them get stronger with time, but I also have all of you who I know would be encouraged if I just let you into my world more. Putting up a video every once in a while, isn’t necessarily helpful because it breaks continuity. I started the videos to help and encourage my Strong in the Lord fitness students who worked out at the church but had moved away and still wanted to work out with me. Truthfully, it’s not always easy to get a video up and running. Sometimes the Internet won’t co-operate, sometimes my time is running short, sometimes my Ipad needs to be charged…I could go on, but you get the idea. It all comes down to using my time more productively, which is my goal. So, with a lot of help from the Lord, I am going to endeavor to write more, put up more videos, and let you into my busy world more often.

If you are struggling with self-image, I have been there! If you are struggling with motivation, I’ve been there! If you are struggling with discouragement, I’ve been there too! You may not see it, but get me into that work out room, pump up the music, and everything changes! Try it, you’ll find it’s true. You might have to talk yourself into exercise, you might finish tired, but you’ll end up feeling successful, being more productive and energetic too.

Life isn’t meant to be easy. We all have our issues, but our minds control our actions. How we think governs how we feel and what we do, and we all want to live our lives to the fullest. We were not meant to sit and ruminate; we were meant to get up and move. My goal is to help each of you live your best life—and that of course includes exercise. In the coming months I hope to help you not only reach your goal but also accept and appreciate where you are right now! It’s a journey I hope we can take together! Until next time, don’t give up on yourself, get up and do what you can. Short or long, easy or hard, every day you exercise is a link in the chain. Don’t break the chain, and you will have a stronger, healthier life!

The ball is in your court, now I’d like to hear from you!

Greetings to all my students and Facebook friends!

As many of you know, I turned 83 this year and I'm still going strong! As you can see, I am still teaching twice a week at my church, which is what you see when everything works right. My personal training business in my own gym is busy, and I love my students! We sweat and have a lot of fun together. It is so rewarding to see everyone getting stronger and more fit! I am also a certified health coach and do workshops from time to time to give people knowledge and help them get and stay healthy too.

Because I teach a lot, and live such a busy lifestyle, I will be taking a two-week vacation, starting tomorrow. I plan to do nothing but rest and relax. I am putting some extra videos on this page for my personal training students who still want to work out with me. This way they can do it from the comfort of home while I rest. I don't want anyone to get too comfortable though, I will be back August 1st bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, as my mother used to say. I will be labeling the videos so you can find them easily. I hope everyone is having a wonderful summer, and I'll see you in a couple of weeks!
No Cheating! 😄

What’s the purpose of working-out? To look better? Yes! To feel better? Yes! The think better? Yes! Those are just a few good reasons. Actually, there are hundreds of reasons to work-out, but I think the greatest one is to take care of the bodies God gave us. It’s simple, but not easy. It’s called maintenance! (And we know anything not maintained can fall apart unexpectantly). It’s easy to take our bodies for granted. Life is busy and getting motivated to get or stay fit takes time and effort. It can be hard, but when you think about the way God designed our bodies to bend and stretch, to give us energy and stamina and the ability to get around, walk, run, climb stairs, etc. why ruin a good thing? God made our bodies to be used. Muscles not used, atrophy. The heart is a muscle. Don’t use it? Lose it! The brain is like a muscle too, it needs to be used to function properly. Our bodies receive the reward when our brains get on board. We know it’s easy to sit, yet hard to get fit. But think of it this way: Our bodies need oxygen to operate efficiently and the only way to fill our bodies with heart-healthy, brain-flourishing, muscle strengthening oxygen, is to get-up and move. That’s why we always feel better after a workout; oxygen is pumping through-out our bodies, improving the way we think, feel, and live. This is why we have class! This is why we go for walks! This is why we dance, swim, bike, garden, etc... Moving is therapeutic, it motivates us to do more. So next time you are tempted to sit, remember the reward of getting-up. Move more! Eat right! Be a friend! Spend time with God! Take care of the gift He gave you and you will become strong, fit, alive and vibrant! Can you think of a better purpose for working-out?

Perhaps you have been wondering what's been going on with no livestreaming, then the strange videos lately? Well...things have been a little crazy and wild! You see, I just turned 80 years old, and this month has been filled with a lot of fun and surprises! It all started the last week of June when special friends flew in and/or drove in to stay with me and help me celebrate my birthday on the 2nd. What a special weekend that was! (Although, it got kicked off with the sewer clogging up, and my air conditioning going on the fritz, which was a little stressful (well, maybe a lot), but both got fixed before the party began, so it turned out to be just a blip after all). It was so nice to be surrounded by longtime friends I hadn’t seen in a while, and then close friends from here. I was treated to sooo many wonderful blessings; beautiful decorations, a special lunch at a special restaurant, homemade carrot cake, and strawberry/rhubarb cobbler. So many sweet gifts, and so much fun! But that was just the beginning! The last of my friends left on Tuesday, my children flew in on Thursday, my grandchildren/great-grandchildren, and niece and her husband, flew in on Friday, and we had a wonderful family reunion on Saturday! I can’t begin to tell you how special my children made the weekend. So much planning and work went into all of it. Beautiful decorations, catered lunch, homemade pie, a photographer to catch all the fun, games, laughter, and lots of shared memories. It was so great being surrounded by my family because we don’t get to be together very often. The family left Sunday night, by boys left Monday morning, and my daughter got to stay an extra day—and I’m so glad she did, because the partying wasn’t over. Monday afternoon my aerobic/fitness class had a “surprise” (ha ha) party for me at one of the best restaurants in town, Michael’s on the Lake. Over 40 women showed up, and I was overwhelmed! What a great time we all had! I was showered with so many beautiful gifts, and so much love. I feel so blessed to have lived this long, to be surrounded by wonderful family and so many special friends, and to still be healthy and fit.
I have been teaching aerobics and fitness for close to forty years now, and it, unlike me, hasn’t gotten old! I’m still going strong though, teaching 3-5 classes a day, five days a week, and I love what I do! Which brings me to why you have been seeing the different videos lately. My big fitness classes have always met on Monday and Thursday mornings at my church, and we have been livestreaming them recently. But the church decided to have camp for the kids for the whole month of July, so my class decided to take a chance and meet in my personal training room at my house. It cannot hold 40 women, but it’s July, and we knew many were on vacation or taking some time off. We have been cramming about 20 women into my room, but it’s been a lot of fun! It’s so rewarding to see so many women realize the importance of exercising and living a healthy lifestyle, and to watch them become stronger and more fit.

This week, I tried livestreaming my class on Monday, then stuck one of my personal training sessions in on Wednesday, and that was fun. I’m getting more comfortable in front of the camera now, yet still learning about camera positioning, and sound, but I think we’re getting better. I haven’t done any real advertising; I’m wanting to get more professional before I do that. We started livestreaming for my friends who moved away, or were on vacation, and for those who wanted to join us. It’s been a learning experience.

I hope you are having a good summer, and that you are staying active. I hope you will work out with us when you can, and I will try to be better at keeping you informed. Always keep hand weights, a 7-8” ball, a fitness band, (rubber and fabric, if you can), a mat, or towel, and a chair handy for when you join us. I hope you will, because exercise and getting fit are good for your body, inside and out!
