Mental health affects everyone, but not everyone has equal access to care.
In recognition of Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, Dr. Rizwana Ashraf, PGY-4 Psychiatry Resident at Georgia South, is shedding light on an important reality: Only 30% of African American and Hispanic adults and 22% of Asian American adults seek psychiatric care.
For many, cultural stigma surrounding mental health, limited access to resources, and a lack of trust in the healthcare system can create barriers to getting the support they deserve.
At Colquitt Regional Health System and Sterling Group Psychiatry, we believe every person deserves compassionate, individualized mental healthcare. Our team is committed to recognizing not only each patient’s unique needs, but also the systemic healthcare disparities that have historically affected marginalized communities.
No matter your background, you deserve to be heard, supported, and cared for. If you or someone you love is struggling, know that help is available.
