Every year, our team heads to the Georgia Psychiatric Physicians Association Summer Meeting. Our program takes pride in showing up in full force each year, remaining one of the few residency programs to bring a large resident cohort to the event. Investing in our residents’ growth, networking, and leadership is always a top priority!

Our Academic Half Days are officially in full swing! 📚🩺

This week, our residents had the opportunity to learn from Dr. Rizwana Ashraf, who presented an engaging session on Anxiety Disorders, providing valuable insights into the diagnosis and management of one of the most common mental health conditions.

We also took a break from the lectures to celebrate our PGY-2 resident, Caleb Rowan, on his birthday! 🎉🥳

Dr. Kent Posey, board-certified Neurologist and Associate Program Director for Georgia South Psychiatry, recently presented to the Colquitt County School Nurses on seizure recognition and management. By sharing his expertise with the healthcare professionals who care for students each day, Dr. Posey helped equip school nurses with valuable knowledge to recognize seizure activity, respond confidently in an emergency, and support students living with epilepsy. We are proud to partner with our local schools to promote education, preparedness, and the health and well-being of our community🧠💙

Mental health affects everyone, but not everyone has equal access to care.

In recognition of Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, Dr. Rizwana Ashraf, PGY-4 Psychiatry Resident at Georgia South, is shedding light on an important reality: Only 30% of African American and Hispanic adults and 22% of Asian American adults seek psychiatric care.

For many, cultural stigma surrounding mental health, limited access to resources, and a lack of trust in the healthcare system can create barriers to getting the support they deserve.

At Colquitt Regional Health System and Sterling Group Psychiatry, we believe every person deserves compassionate, individualized mental healthcare. History was made on Saturday, June 27, as Georgia South Graduate Medical Education proudly graduated our inaugural class of Psychiatry Residency physicians! 🎓🩺

After four years of hard work, dedication, and commitment to advancing mental health care, Dr. Richard Tricardo, Dr. Anthony Cimmino, and Dr. Xuan Ouyang have reached this incredible milestone!👏

Throughout their residency, they have cared for patients across our community, grown into exceptional psychiatrists, and helped lay the foundation for a program that will positively impact South Georgia and beyond for years to come.
