Happy (Early) Father's Day

Let’s look to the Lord and expect to find treasure more precious than gold. This Father’s Day and every day. Let’s rest in our Father’s Love.

Mom's garden, sown with love... Her love reminds me of a garden; ever lovely, growing, and alive. Born and raised in New York City, the feisty redhead sprang into action the day after tulips and daffodils popped their heads up after a long winter's slumber. Welcoming patches of color bordered sidewalks along our street. The hard-as-a-rock soil didn't deter her. She jumped at the first opportunity to plant a few fragrant roses and daisies before we waved goodbye to the city and said hello to Summer in the Catskills Mountains....

Memories of my mom’s garden and her never-ending love have opened my eyes to see the beauty of the miraculous gift we call life.

The end of all things old Each new day signifies a fresh start—the end of all things old. We step away from past sorrows, failures, and disappointments to embrace the hope of a brighter perspective in a brand-new way. Springtime’s refreshing beauty prompts me to search for answers to a few of life’s puzzling questions and to uncover hidden blessings. When outdoors, I’m reminded of the one who created all that ever was, is, and ever will be—and how he allows storms to rage throughout our life stories to make way for new beginnings....

Yesterday's sorrows and failures are gone. There's hope for a brighter perspective. I choose to lean on God’s promise of new things to come.

Can unchanging truths about wisdom lead to seasons of real change? Adventures. Tragedies. Romance. Mystery. All the metaphors and poetic verse pique my brain and prod me to study beyond the written page. I want to dig deeper and understand hidden truths or messages stuffed between blurred lines of ever-changing characters. Some resemble scary ghost stories without all the ghouls. Others are horrific....

Like the unchanging Father, Wisdom guides decerning hearts in all seasons and helps us become the change this world desperately needs.

Can love change the world? I’m reminded of splendor and thunder; how the trickle-down effects of selflessness, patience, kindness, and faithfulness instead of selfishness, impatience, and unfaithfulness can change lives for the better. There’s no magic formula or reasoning. The evidence comes from living and speaking light instead of darkness. The words: Love one another can change us—but we live in a world where belief in such simplicity isn’t popular....

What if the gift of true love goes beyond human understanding and lies solely in knowing the unseen Giver of no greater love?

Starting over and embracing new beginnings… When I think of winter's wonders, my thoughts wander like snowflakes drifting with the wind. The sudden rush of goodbyes and quiet after Christmas vacations with our loved ones left me speechless. It's only been a few weeks since we welcomed them with open arms and happy tears, and then we blinked and, it was time to wave so long....

What if fear or the uncertainty of tomorrow’s dreams turning into nightmares remind us about embracing the thought of starting over again?

I wish you peace I often speak about my father as if he were the best dad a girl could ever have. However, as he approached the end of his life, his faith and integrity pointed to and proved, there’s only one perfect Father who deserves such glory: The maker of heaven and earth; everlasting faithful one; strength and peace wrapped up in truth and gentleness…not flesh and bone, or ribbon and bows....

My Christmas wish for you is wrapped in eternal love instead of ribbons and bows. Now and always, I wish you Jesus.

Thanksgiving in all its fullness? When I think about Thanksgiving, the first thing that comes to mind is gratefulness and all its trimmings. We pause to remember the year’s fullness or lack thereof. Today as I write, I’m reminded of how every breath we breathe and hand we hold leads us forward on our journeys to find a deeper calling in life—and how living deliberately might be the key to finding the great fullness of Thanksgiving....

What if every breath we breathe and hand we hold leads us to a deeper calling in life... and, to finding the great fullness of Thanksgiving?

Prophesied messiah, or prejudged leader? “John. Peter. Paul. Come, follow me.” I imagine Jesus’s smile as he reached out his hand to each man. But, did they drop everything and run to Him? What about when he said, “I am the way, the truth, and the light. No one comes to the Father except through me?” Did they worry about the consequences of leaving family and friends to follow a man who claimed to be the Son of God, the Messiah they had waited for all their lives?...

Jesus. Light of the world and good shepherd. A humble man who became King of Kings, gifted by the Holy of Holies, and destined to lead.

Thankful for all the flavors? While the abundance of fall and my favorite season’s harvest means more to me than picking apples in North Carolina, baking pumpkin pies, or roasting huge turkeys, I smile with every remembrance of autumns gone by. Only by God’s grace, in good times and bad, we’ve gathered summer’s bounty or lack thereof. With every news headline I read, I’m reminded there’s never been a better time to appreciate life—or celebrate thankfulness and all the colorful flavors of fall....

What if we choose to celebrate thankfulness and all the colorful flavors of fall— every season we’re given, for the gift it really is?

Nuture patience? I’m sure you’ve heard your mother, sister, or best friend say, “This too shall pass.” Yep. I thought so. The first thing that usually comes to my mind is something like, “You’re only saying that because you’re not the one going through this disaster…” Second and third thoughts: “What do they know about forbearance in such a valley?”...
