💛 Breastfeeding & Mental Health: Let’s Talk About It

Breastfeeding can be beautiful, bonding, and deeply rewarding—but it can also be hard. And we don’t talk about that part enough.

Challenges with latch or milk supply, pain, exhaustion, feeling touched-out, or simply not knowing if you’re doing it “right” can take a toll on a new mom’s mental health.

And here’s the reminder every mama needs to hear: Your mental health matters, too. 🫶

There is no award for struggling in silence. Asking for help doesn’t mean you’re failing—it means you’re taking care of yourself and your baby.

Whether you need lactation support, help with infant oral motor skills, someone to listen, or simply reassurance that you’re not alone, support is available.

🤍 Fed is important.
🤍 Supported is important.
🤍 Mom’s mental health is important.

Let’s normalize talking about the whole breastfeeding experience—not just the picture-perfect moments.

Mamas, you don’t have to do this alone. 🌿

🤱🏼 August is Breastfeeding Month! 🤍

Breastfeeding is about so much more than nourishment. It’s connection, comfort, bonding, and the beautiful beginning of your baby’s oral and airway development.

And while breastfeeding can be incredibly rewarding, we know it doesn’t always come easily. You don’t have to figure it all out alone. 🫶🏼

Our team is here to support families through the early days with lactation support and infant oral motor care, helping identify challenges that may be affecting feeding, including oral function, latch, sucking, and coordination.

Whether breastfeeding is going exactly as planned or you’re facing a few bumps along the way—we see you, we support you, and we’re cheering you on. 💕

✨ Every feeding journey is different. Every mom deserves support.

Happy Breastfeeding Month from The BreatheWell Group! 🌿

😴👄 The Connection Between Sleep and Oral Muscles 👄😴

When we think about sleep, we often focus on bedtime routines, sleep schedules, or mattress quality—but did you know your oral muscles play an important role, too?

The position and function of the tongue, lips, and facial muscles can impact how well you breathe during sleep. When these muscles aren’t functioning optimally, it may contribute to:
✨ Mouth breathing
✨ Snoring
✨ Restless sleep
✨ Dry mouth upon waking
✨ Sleep-disordered breathing
✨ Daytime fatigue

A properly functioning tongue should rest against the roof of the mouth and help support healthy nasal breathing. When oral muscle patterns are off, sleep quality can suffer.

Myofunctional Coaching focuses on strengthening and retraining the muscles of the tongue, lips, cheeks, and face to promote healthy breathing patterns and support better sleep.

At The BreatheWell Group, we believe that quality sleep starts with healthy function. By addressing oral muscle dysfunction, we can help support more restful nights and healthier days.

I waited for MONTHS for this appointment with Israel and Crystal Eikon Health & Wellness on the historic Lebanon square and I was so excited to finally get in and find answers!

Muscle testing also know as Kinesiology is a non-invasive system of analyzing the body in order to determine the underlying causes of ill health. When these are corrected through safe, natural nutritional means the body can repair itself in order to attain and maintain more optimum health.
The actual procedure is simple and direct, with the body providing all of the information and feedback needed. We use the extraordinary properties of the human cells and tissues to bring about healing and health changes.
The body responds to the procedure reliably and consistently. This feedback is so precise that it opens the door to a safe and lasting recovery, even in cases where everything else has failed.
When undergoing muscle testing you will be tested for these five common stressors:
    •    Scars
    •    Food sensitivities
    •    Immune challenges
    •    Chemical challenges
    •    Metal challenges

😴☀️ Why You Wake Up Tired (Even After 8 Hours of Sleep) ☀️😴

Getting 8 hours of sleep doesn’t always mean you’re getting quality sleep.

If you wake up feeling exhausted, groggy, or like you could go right back to bed, your body may not be getting the restorative sleep it needs. Factors such as mouth breathing, snoring, airway restrictions, and sleep-disordered breathing can disrupt sleep—even if you’re unaware of it.

Common signs of poor sleep quality include:
✨ Waking up tired despite a full night’s sleep
✨ Morning headaches
✨ Dry mouth upon waking
✨ Daytime fatigue or brain fog
✨ Difficulty concentrating
✨ Irritability or mood changes
✨ Snoring or restless sleep

Quality sleep is essential for physical health, mental clarity, energy levels, and overall well-being. When breathing is optimized, sleep often improves too.

At The BreatheWell Group, we help identify oral and airway-related factors that may be contributing to poor sleep quality. Myofunctional coaching can be an important part of supporting healthier breathing patterns and better rest.

😴💙 Restless Sleep and Mouth Breathing 💙😴

Does you or someone in your family toss and turn all night, wake up frequently, or never seem fully rested in the morning?

Restless sleep can sometimes be linked to mouth breathing. When the body isn’t getting optimal airflow during sleep, it may work harder throughout the night, leading to disrupted sleep patterns and less restorative rest.

Signs that mouth breathing may be affecting sleep include:
✨ Sleeping with an open mouth
✨ Snoring or noisy breathing
✨ Frequent position changes during sleep
✨ Night sweats
✨ Waking up tired or groggy
✨ Difficulty focusing during the day

Healthy nasal breathing helps support better oxygen exchange, improved sleep quality, and overall growth and development.

At The BreatheWell Group, we evaluate breathing patterns, oral function, and airway-related concerns to help uncover possible causes of restless sleep. Through myofunctional coaching, we work to support healthy breathing habits and optimal oral muscle function.

📞 If you or someone in your family struggles with restless sleep, we’re here to help explore the “why” behind it.

😴🚨 Signs of Sleep-Disordered Breathing 🚨😴

Many people think sleep-disordered breathing only means loud snoring, but the signs can be much more subtle—especially in children.

Some common signs to watch for include:
✨ Mouth breathing during the day or night
✨ Snoring or noisy breathing while sleeping
✨ Restless sleep or frequent waking
✨ Teeth grinding (bruxism)
✨ Night sweats
✨ Bedwetting beyond the expected age
✨ Dark circles under the eyes
✨ Difficulty focusing or behavioral concerns during the day
✨ Waking up tired, even after a full night’s sleep

Sleep-disordered breathing can impact sleep quality, growth, learning, mood, and overall health. The good news is that identifying concerns early can help families find the support and treatment they need.

At The BreatheWell Group, we help identify oral and airway-related factors that may be contributing to sleep and breathing challenges.

😴💨 Myofunctional Therapy and CPAP Users 💨😴

Did you know that Myofunctional Therapy can be a valuable complement to CPAP therapy?

CPAP is highly effective for managing sleep apnea, but it doesn’t address the underlying muscle patterns that may contribute to airway dysfunction. Myofunctional Therapy focuses on strengthening and retraining the muscles of the tongue, lips, cheeks, and throat to support healthier breathing and airway function.

Potential benefits of combining Myofunctional Therapy with CPAP may include:
✨ Improved tongue posture
✨ Better nasal breathing habits
✨ Enhanced oral muscle strength and coordination
✨ Increased awareness of breathing patterns
✨ Support for overall airway health

Myofunctional Therapy is not a replacement for CPAP, but it can be an important part of a comprehensive approach to sleep and airway wellness.

If you’re using CPAP and looking for ways to support your breathing and sleep health, Myofunctional Therapy may be worth exploring.

📞 Contact The BreatheWell Group to learn how Myofunctional Therapy can complement your airway and sleep treatment plan.

Why does choosing a trained myofunctional therapist matter? 🤔

Because the right therapist does so much more than teach exercises.

A trained myofunctional therapist understands how breathing, tongue posture, swallowing, oral habits, sleep, and airway health all work together to support lasting results.

✨ Comprehensive assessment
✨ Personalized treatment plan
✨ Evidence-based care
✨ Collaboration with your healthcare team
✨ Support every step of the way

Your health deserves expertise—not a one-size-fits-all approach.

If you’re considering myofunctional therapy for yourself or your child, make sure you’re choosing someone with the education and training to help you achieve lasting success.
