Wow! It’s May already? That means wedding season is almost upon us. Yay! Or… yikes! To each their own I suppose.
Anyhow, no matter how you feel about it, wedding dresses often hold a lot of power. They're special symbols of a special day - and are often expensive. But what happens to a wedding dress after the wedding? Well, that's up to you. In this episode I talk about wedding dresses and the many options you have as you decide what to do with your dress whether your dress is new, old, or a family heirloom in your care.
Exhibitsmith the Podcast is back! I'm bringing new voices to the podcast, to have engaging discussions about the roles museums, archives, and libraries play in our world. We talk about how and why these institutions matter, and how everyone can do their part to both support them and benefit from them. Please subscribe to the podcast on your favorite platform so you don't miss an exciting new episode.

I FINALLY got to the Statue of Liberty and it was everything I wanted it to be and more. If you're on the fence about taking the trip, do it! If you want to see everything and read every label, the trip will definitely take most of the day. But even if you're just browsing through (or have kids who are getting antsy), it's still a memorable experience that should not be missed.

Whether you're in from out of town or live down the street, be sure to visit Lady Liberty and tell her I say hello.

Do you have old VHS tapes at home? Have you tried to play them lately?

Did you know that new VCRs aren't being manufactured? If you want to watch your old tapes, you'll need to buy a used player. AND, VHS tapes have a definite shelf life. Many VHS tapes are already disintegrating and turning to dust (ask me how I know...).

You can attempt to digitize the tapes yourself - you can easily buy all the things you need - but your tapes might need a little TLC that only a professional will be able to manage.

The first tape is from 1993 and does still play...kind of. The second tape is from 1996 and still seems "okay". Too bad I don't want to keep that weird summer music camp "performance" forever. My other VHS tapes from the 80s and 90s are poor at best.

Colleagues! I’ve been meaning to tell you all that I am REGISTERED for AAM! The American Alliance of Museums Annual Meeting is coming to town next month and I would love to connect with as many of you as possible, both at the conference and after hours.

I am also trying to figure out a way to sell some of my Hangerbee merch in person AND offer free delivery to Philadelphia during the conference.

I am particularly interested in meeting up with fellow Eastern Illinois University Historical Administration (HAPA) alums, my Iowa colleagues (@ Iowa Museum Association), friends and colleagues from Griffin Museum of Science and Industry, and members of the New Jersey museum community (New Jersey Association of Museums)

Has anything been planned as of yet? Please let me know!
