Did You Know? Many People Have the MTHFR Gene Variant and Don’t Know It?

Most people have never heard of the MTHFR gene mutation, but it’s actually quite common.

The MTHFR gene variant affects how the body converts folate (vitamin B9) into its active form that cells can use.

Because of this, some people may be more sensitive to synthetic folic acid, which is added to many processed foods—especially enriched flour products like bread, pasta, cereals, and baked goods.

For awareness, people with this variant may notice things like:
• Fatigue or low energy
• Brain fog
• Anxiety or mood shifts
• Headaches or migraines
• Elevated homocysteine on labs

Since most people don’t know their genetic status, some choose to be mindful of how much enriched, fortified foods they rely on and focus on whole food sources of folate.

This isn’t about restriction or fear—it’s about understanding that nutrition isn’t one-size-fits-all, and genetics can play a quiet role in how we feel every day.

Don’t ignore discomfort — your body is very polite at first… then it starts yelling in chiropractor language.

Did You Know?
Your gut and brain are constantly communicating with each other.

In fact, the gut is often called the “second brain” because of the strong connection between digestion, mood, and the nervous system.

Poor gut health has been linked to symptoms like:
• Anxiety
• Brain fog
• Fatigue
• Mood swings
• Trouble sleeping
• Bloating and digestive discomfort

A large portion of serotonin — a chemical involved in mood regulation — is produced in the gut, which is why what’s happening in the digestive system can sometimes affect how we feel emotionally too.

This doesn’t mean anxiety is “just a gut problem,” but it does highlight how connected the body truly is.

Sometimes healing isn’t about looking at one symptom alone — it’s about understanding the whole system.

This Memorial Day, we pause to honor and remember the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

We are grateful for their sacrifice and the freedoms we are able to enjoy because of them.

Wishing everyone a safe, peaceful, and meaningful Memorial Day.
