🌍 World Digestive Health Day 💚

Nutrition plays an important role across many digestive diseases, but there is no single dietary approach that works for everyone.

From IBS and IBD to celiac disease and eosinophilic oesophagitis (EoE), different conditions require different evidence-based nutrition strategies tailored to the individual.

Today, we’re highlighting some of the dietary approaches supported by current evidence, including:
• First-line dietary advice and the Low FODMAP diet for IBS
• Enteral nutrition, the Crohn’s Disease Exclusion Diet (CDED), and Mediterranean-style dietary patterns in IBD
• The gluten-free diet in celiac disease
• Elimination diets in EoE

Across all digestive diseases, the goal is the same: to use nutrition thoughtfully and strategically as part of comprehensive care while maintaining nutritional adequacy and quality of life.

At the GI Nutrition Foundation, we are committed to improving awareness and access to evidence-based nutrition education across digestive health.

World EoE Day – 22nd May 💚

Eosinophilic oesophagitis (EoE) is an increasingly recognised immune-mediated condition that can affect both children and adults.

Because specific foods may trigger inflammation in the oesophagus, nutrition plays an important role in identifying food triggers and supporting symptom management.

Symptoms such as difficulty swallowing, food getting stuck, reflux not responding to medications, vomiting, or feeding difficulties should not be ignored.

Evidence-based dietary therapies, including elimination diets, can help some individuals reduce inflammation and improve symptoms when used as part of comprehensive care.

At the GI Nutrition Foundation, we are passionate about improving awareness and access to evidence-based nutrition education across digestive diseases, including EoE.

For World IBD Day, we invited clinicians, researchers, and dietitians working across the field of IBD nutrition to share short perspectives on evidence-based dietary therapies used in inflammatory bowel disease.

From the Mediterranean diet and fibre in IBD, to CDED, SCD, and other dietary approaches, this carousel highlights the growing role nutrition can play as part of comprehensive IBD care.

Nutrition in IBD is not one-size-fits-all. Dietary therapies should always be individualized and delivered alongside medical care with support from experienced healthcare professionals.

A huge thank you to all of the contributors who shared their expertise and helped us raise awareness around nutrition in IBD 💚

💚 Today is Celiac Awareness Day 💚

Celiac disease is a chronic autoimmune condition that requires lifelong management with a strict gluten-free diet.

However, following a gluten-free diet is not always straightforward. Understanding ingredient lists, gluten-free claims, certification labels, and hidden sources of gluten can be challenging, especially for those newly diagnosed.

This week, we shared a new educational resource in our GI Nutrition Foundation newsletter: “Decoding the Mystery: Making Sense of Gluten-Free Food Labels”

This evidence-based guide was designed to help individuals better navigate:
- Gluten-free labeling claims
- Hidden gluten ingredients
- Cross-contamination statements
- Certification symbols
- Safe gluten-free food choices

At the GI Nutrition Foundation, we are passionate about improving awareness and access to evidence-based nutrition education for individuals living with celiac disease 💚
