This is the kind of research we need more of:

A new study published in Neurology, reported by TIME, looked at the brains of more than 5,000 women who had undergone hysterectomy. Women who had received estrogen-only hormone therapy had 35% lower odds of having Alzheimer’s disease pathology at autopsy compared with women who had not received estrogen.

This study does not prove that estrogen prevents Alzheimer’s disease. What it does give us is another reason to keep investigating the relationship between estrogen, menopause, and the brain, and to reconsider the information we have been given.

For decades, hormone therapy research often overlooked key factors for consideration of use in perimenopause/menopause.

We need better answers. And studies like this help move us closer.
