March has long been about awareness and screening, and that work has saved lives. But today, awareness alone is not enough.

While screening rates are up and mortality is down for older Americans, colorectal cancer is the only major cancer rising in people under 50. A stunning 75% of young patients are diagnosed at an advanced stage, while the metastatic CRC survival rate is just 13%. As a result, colorectal cancer is now the leading cause of cancer death in people under 50 and the second deadliest cancer overall.

February is American Heart Month, a national, federally designated, and annual event dedicated to raising awareness about cardiovascular disease, which is the leading cause of death for both men and women in the U.S.. Since 1964, this month serves as a reminder to take charge of heart health by understanding risks, eating healthily, and staying active to prevent up to 80% of cardiovascular events.

Key Aspects of American Heart Month
Purpose: To spotlight cardiovascular diseases, such as coronary artery disease, and to promote life-saving actions.
Significance of Red: National Wear Red Day, observed on the first Friday of February, encourages wearing red to raise awareness for women's heart health and to represent strength against heart disease and stroke.
History: Initiated in 1964 by President Lyndon B. Johnson, who himself had suffered a heart attack, to combat the nation's leading cause of death.

How to Get Involved:
Wear Red: Participate in National Wear Red Day.
Learn CPR: The American Heart Association encourages learning Hands-Only CPR to be prepared to save a life.
