PA Lions Beacon Lodge Camp empowers children, adults, and veterans living with disabilities through adaptive recreation.

Since 1948, we've provided a safe, inclusive space to build confidence, independence, and lifelong memories. PA Lions Beacon Lodge Camp is a summer camp for children and adults with special needs. Our mission is to provide all individuals with special needs the opportunity to enjoy a camping experience encompassing recreational, educational, and personal adjustment. Special emphasis is placed on s

timulating interests and appreciation for recreation and learning, and to encourage attempting new challenges. The camp also serves as a reference center for Pennsylvania Residents for support services in their local area.

🌲 Did you know that one of Pennsylvania’s most remarkable camps is located right here near Mount Union?

PA Lions Beacon Lodge Camp began in 1948 with Carl Shoemaker’s vision of creating a summer camp where blind and visually impaired Pennsylvanians could experience recreation, friendship and greater independence.

Today, its 583 wooded acres welcome children and adults with a wide range of disabilities. Generations of campers have enjoyed swimming, camping, arts and crafts, a climbing tower, zip line—and even the distinctive Hodges Hand Car Railroad.

But the property’s history goes back even further. Before Beacon Lodge, it was the beautiful Blue Springs estate of prominent Mount Union businessman R.P.M. Davis. The grounds hosted family weddings, community gatherings and river recreation before beginning their extraordinary new chapter as Beacon Lodge.

Some veterans come back and still feel alone.

At Beacon Lodge, we're building something for them - not just a memorial, but a whole ecosystem of programming. Healing retreats. Adaptive sports. Wellness experiences are designed around what veterans carry home with them and what they actually need to move forward.

The Pride Challenge is NEW for 2026 - Lions Clubs are competing in 3 divisions by location to see who brings the most Lions to the PA Lions Beacon Lodge Camp on July 19th for PLAD! Bragging rights are absolutely on the line.

Here's what's waiting for you this year at PLAD (Pennsylvania Lions Appreciation Day) at PA Lions Beacon Lodge Camp on July 19th:

Most people think communication requires words.

It doesn't. It requires being understood, and that's a very different thing.

At PA Lions Beacon Lodge Camp, staff are trained to tune in before they speak up.

To notice the head tilt that means curiosity.
The heel bounce that means excitement.
The way someone arranges their space on the first day and what that tells you about what they need.

For adults living with intellectual disabilities or autism, the world is full of environments that weren't designed with them in mind; spaces that move too fast, assume too much, and rarely slow down long enough to learn how someone actually communicates.
