One of the many urgent care capabilities available right here at Zion Asher Family Physicians is the ability to evaluate for corneal abrasions (scratches on the eye) and identify small foreign bodies that can be difficult to see with the naked eye.

Using special fluorescein staining strips like the one pictured, we can quickly assess many common eye injuries and determine the best course of treatment—all in the office.

Too often we're taught to be nice at all costs.
To avoid conflict.
To keep the peace.
To not disappoint people.

𝘽𝙪𝙩 𝙨𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙩𝙞𝙢𝙚𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙚𝙨𝙩 𝙘𝙝𝙤𝙞𝙘𝙚 𝙞𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝙨𝙖𝙮:
"No."
"That doesn't work for me."
"I'm not comfortable with that."

Several specialists in our region have recently left, and referral wait times are expected to grow significantly.

For many patients, that could mean waiting months for answers.

💡 One of the biggest misconceptions about Direct Primary Care (DPC) is that it’s only for individuals paying out of pocket. 💡

In reality, 𝐚 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐧𝐮𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐛𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐃𝐏𝐂 𝐚𝐬 𝐚𝐧 𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐲𝐞𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐭 and honestly, it makes a lot of sense.

Currently, about 35% of our memberships are through employers providing DPC access to their employees. Why? Because businesses are realizing that faster access to care often means:
✔️ Less missed work
✔️ Fewer urgent care visits
✔️ Better continuity of care
✔️ Earlier treatment before problems become bigger (and more expensive)

The average wait time to see a primary care physician in the U.S. is now measured in weeks — not days. That delay often pushes employees into urgent care or the ER for issues that could have been handled quickly in a primary care setting.

Many tick-borne illnesses respond best when recognized and treated early. Waiting weeks to get into a traditional primary care office can create unnecessary stress and delays; especially during the busy summer months.

𝙒𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝘿𝙋𝘾, 𝙥𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙨 𝙤𝙛𝙩𝙚𝙣 𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙚:
✔️ Same-day or next-day access
✔️ The ability to send photos or messages directly to their physician
✔️ Ongoing continuity with a doctor who knows their history
✔️ After-hours access for urgent concerns when appropriate

This allows us to evaluate tick bites, rashes, fevers, or concerning symptoms quickly and determine when treatment or further evaluation may be needed.

🩺 We also believe strongly in continuing medical education and staying engaged with evolving research. Our physicians participate in a monthly journal club with other physicians around the country, and our May discussion focused specifically on Lyme disease and approaches to persistent/chronic Lyme-related symptoms.

Medicine is always evolving, and we believe patients deserve doctors who continue learning.

It’s about remembering people who gave up future plans, ordinary moments, and years they never got to live—so others could.

Maybe the best way to honor sacrifice is not through big speeches, but by refusing to take life for granted.

Be present today.
Put the phone down for a while.
Laugh with your family.
Call someone you’ve been meaning to call.
Go make the memory.

Life is fragile. That’s what days like today remind us.

📞 One of the things patients appreciate most about the Direct Primary Care model is simple:
👉 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬.

Because let’s be honest; illnesses do not politely wait until Monday morning at 9 AM.

- A child wakes up Saturday morning with a fever, swollen tonsils, and obvious strep throat.
- A woman develops classic UTI symptoms Friday night.
These are not usually ER-level emergencies… but they 𝙖𝙧𝙚 uncomfortable, stressful, and can absolutely worsen if left untreated all weekend.

In the traditional system, patients often only have a few choices:
❌ Wait it out and hope it improves
❌ Spend hours at urgent care/ER
❌ Pay a large urgent care or ER bill/co-pay for something their primary care doctor could easily manage

This is one of the reasons we structured our clinic as a membership-based Direct Primary Care practice.

💙 Same-day and after-hours access becomes sustainable.
