🌟 New Resident Spotlight: Laura Nygaard 🌟

We’re excited to welcome Laura to LCM!

Laura was born and raised in Reeds Spring, Missouri, and is the youngest of eight children. She has always had a caring heart and says she loves both children and the elderly. Like her mother, caregiving has been a big part of her life. Laura raised two children and a stepdaughter and is now the proud grandmother of five grandchildren.

Laura also has some unique memories from growing up. Her father was a gunsmith at Silver Dollar City, and her grandmother made soap in the shop next door. Laura would often go to work with her dad and even take naps on a pallet in her grandmother’s shop.

Later in life, Laura worked at Silver Dollar City and Shepherd of the Hills waiting tables, and she also spent time cleaning motel rooms. She grew up riding horses and has always enjoyed being around them.

We’re so glad to have Laura as part of the LCM family! 💛

🌟 New Resident Spotlight: Beverly Berry 🌟

We’re happy to welcome Beverly to Lawrence County Manor!

Beverly was born in Olathe, Kansas, and grew up as one of five children. When she was young, her father joined the Navy, which took the family to San Diego, California, where Beverly loved living near the beach. They later moved to Washington before eventually settling on a farm near Bois D’Arc, Missouri.

Farm life brought plenty of hard work, and Beverly often helped her father with chores. She also had a palomino horse that she loved to ride.

Beverly later worked as a CMT in a hospital, where she met her husband, James. Together they built a family that included two sons and two stepdaughters. Beverly and James were married for 43 years.

These days, Beverly enjoys being creative and loves drawing on canvas with magic markers.

We’re so glad to have Beverly as part of the LCM family! 💛

Today is National Senior Citizens Day, and we couldn’t let it pass without showing a little extra love to our residents. 💛

They are the reason LCM is filled with so many stories, laughs, traditions, and memories.

We’re thankful for each one of them and for the opportunity to know and care for them every day.

You can’t always be there every day, and that can be one of the hardest parts of caring for someone you love. 💛

At LCM, our goal is to give families peace of mind knowing their loved one has support, companionship, meals, activities, and a caring team around them each day.

Whether you live nearby or hours away, you should feel confident that your family member is safe, comfortable, and cared for.

Because sometimes peace of mind is simply knowing they’re not alone. 🏠

👋 Meet Mikala Brophy, Director of Nursing at Lawrence County Manor!

Mikala graduated from Crowder College in Neosho with her ADN in 2008. It was during nursing school that several wonderful instructors helped her discover her passion for geriatric nursing.

Her career eventually brought her to Lawrence County Manor in 2010, and after gaining experience in several different areas of healthcare, Mikala returned home to LCM in February 2025. Today, as Director of Nursing, she oversees our nursing department and works closely with residents, families, and staff to make sure our residents receive safe, compassionate, and quality care.

Throughout her career, Mikala has helped facilities achieve a deficiency-free state survey and a 5-star rating. She was also recognized in 2018 for her work reducing the use of antipsychotic medications below the national benchmark.

Outside of work, Mikala enjoys spending time with her husband and their many grandchildren, riding motorcycles with her group of friends, reading, and, in her words, taking naps. 😊

When asked who she would have dinner with if she could choose anyone, her answers were especially meaningful: her dad for one more taco and the chance to tell him she loves him, a former guidance counselor who doubted her so she could say “I told you so,” and her younger self to remind her that everything would work out and tell her how proud she is of the woman she became.

We’re so glad Mikala is part of the LCM team! 💙
