The conversation around diabetes needs more compassion and less blame.

So many people are silently struggling with insulin resistance, prediabetes, gestational diabetes, or Type 2 diabetes while carrying guilt that was never theirs to hold.

Diabetes is influenced by genetics, hormones, stress, sleep, environment, metabolism, and access to care ,not just “willpower.”

Shame has never been an effective treatment plan.

What’s one diabetes myth you wish people would stop believing? ↓

Yesterday , I went to my own P*P appointment for this year … and it reminded me how many people walk into annual visits without knowing what preventive labs or screenings are even relevant to them.

Especially for vegetarians and South Asians, there are patterns I commonly see in practice:

• B12 deficiency
• Low ferritin/iron
• Vitamin D deficiency
• Insulin resistance & elevated A1c
• Triglyceride and heart risk changes that get missed early

And many of these show up BEFORE someone feels “sick.”

Your P*P appointment is not just paperwork and vitals. It is one of the biggest opportunities to catch trends early and advocate for your future health.

Not every lab is needed for every person -this is meant to help you start informed conversations with your doctor based on your history, symptoms, medications, and family risk.

SAVE this for your next annual check-up so you remember what to ask about ✨

PCOS was renamed to PMOS (Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome) to better reflect the metabolic realities many women experience — especially South Asian women at higher risk for insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes.

Fertility is only one part of the story. Metabolic health matters too.

The name change from PCOS to PMOS was led by an international consortium of researchers, clinicians, patient advocates, and more than 50 global health organizations — with the updated terminology published in The Lancet in 2026.

The trace nutrients that quietly affect blood sugar 🌱PART 2.

If you saved Part 1, this is your next layer.

These nutrients don’t get as much attention, but they directly support:
• insulin signaling
• glucose uptake
• inflammation

On vegetarian diets, I commonly see gaps in:
✨ zinc
✨ chromium
✨ selenium
✨ omega-3s (EPA/DHA)

And here’s the important nuance
these aren’t nutrients we routinely test or aggressively supplement.

Why?
Because levels in the blood don’t always reflect what’s happening in the body, and excess intake (especially with trace minerals) can interfere with uptake of other important nutrients.

So, the goal is:
✔️ variety across plant foods
✔️ building meals that naturally cover your bases

If you wish to supplement please discuss this with your doctor instead of OTC self supplementation without improving quality of your diet
