Shoulder impingement in overhead athletes isn't caused by a structural problem in most cases. It's caused by a stability problem. 🎯
The subacromial space narrows when the humeral head migrates superiorly, which happens when the rotator cuff muscles responsible for inferior glide aren't generating adequate force. Pain on overhead movement is the result of the cuff's stabilizing function failing under load. Corrective exercise targeting rotator cuff activation, combined with dry needling to release the compensating upper trapezius and levator scapulae, restores the mechanics in most cases.
Save this for the overhead athlete who's been told they might need surgery.
