I always know it’s coming every year. A quiet sadness settles in for a few days before May 15th arrives.

11 years ago today, I learned the grief of hearing, “I’m so sorry… your baby doesn’t have a heartbeat.” It’s a kind of heartbreak I wish no one ever had to know.

For a long time, I truly believed no good could ever come from that day. But time has a way of bringing healing, and over the years I’ve seen small glimpses of hope woven into the grief.

The hope of Heaven has become sweeter to me. I’ve learned the power of simply sitting with someone in silence when words don’t exist. I’ve gained a deeper compassion for grieving mothers because compassion was once shown to me. And now, every time I care for a mom welcoming a baby after loss, there’s an extra sweetness and tenderness in that joy.

One thing grief has taught me is that God’s love is still present even in the hardest plans we never would have chosen for ourselves. He grieves with us, stays near to us, and somehow still brings hope in the mourning.

If you are walking this road today, I am so sorry. I pray you have people who show up for you, sit with you, and remind you that you are not alone. And more than anything, I pray you feel the peace of Jesus in seasons that feel so unbearably unpeaceful.
