Hi Friends- It's been awhile since I posted here. I've had some interest in sourdough classes lately and thought I would get those going again. The first and upcoming hands-on sourdough workshop will be Saturday, March 18 in the AM. Watch for more details soon.
Bread has become so controversial in health circles with many holistic leaders claiming that gluten is bad for everyone. Have you experienced any negative effects from gluten? What are they? I notice that I have increased fatigue and sometimes joint inflammation if I eat it several days in a row. Now, I'm mostly gluten free. But for those who want a healthier version of bread, homemade sourdough is an excellent option. More to come soon on the benefits of homemade sourdough and class times.

A new Congressional investigation is showing several major brands of baby foods contain unacceptable levels of toxic heavy metals. Here is the article if you want the full story:

What can you do to avoid feeding your baby toxic heavy metals? Here are three suggestions to get started:
1) Make your own baby food from organic fruits, vegetables, eggs, meats and whole grains.
2) Let baby begin with soft foods that they can pick up, waiting until at least 6 months to begin feeding solids. (Many doctors are recommending a much later start time for solid food for baby.)
3) Avoid processed "gimmick" foods for baby such as cereal based snacks. As another example, avoid so called yogurt snacks in a plastic tube. These snacks contain food coloring and sugar, and have been pasteurized so they actually have no beneficial bacteria. Instead buy organic whole yogurt (or make your own from milk from local pastured cows) that has no sugar or coloring added.
4) Always read labels when shopping for you and your family. Always avoid added sugar, food coloring, preservatives and additives.
5) Shop local from farmers that you know and trust.
