Sometimes we have the best intentions of cooking a full-blown, gourmet meal… but the project get the best of us. Our go-to is BMTs, replacing the lettuce with microgreens. Our current obsession is sunflower microgreens on our BMTs, the sweetness of the sunflower against the saltiness of the bacon is perfection. Add some avocado and it’s practically a gourment meal in 10 minutes.

We hope your tomato plants are thriving and you’ll be able to enjoy your own tomatoes on a future BMT really soon!

Thankful for the rainy days for some reminders to rest. It gave us a chance to walk our forest for mushrooms and grab some of our late garlic scapes for some garlic salt.

Grateful for the projects coming to life here! The garden has been trellised and we’re excited to grow some delicious food. We’ve hatched some baby quails & put the honey supers on the hives! Tomorrow is harvest day for microgreens and they’ve been loving this sunlight this week!

What a wonderful market day! We were so blessed with so many great conversations, thoughtful gifts, and the chance to spend time with such an incredible community. We even came home and got to watch a baby quail hatch, which was the perfect ending to an already amazing day!

We are beyond grateful and cannot thank you all enough for the continued support and love you show our small farm. The friendships we’ve made and the community we’ve found through the market mean the world to us.

Thank you for being part of this journey!

New this week, we’re bringing Genovese basil microgreens along with our other varieties. Just a pinch adds a fresh basil kick to pasta, pizza, eggs, sandwiches, and more.

We’re also bringing back our tie dye this week. We’ve been spinning new colors and patterns all week and can’t wait to share them with y’all.

Come see us Saturday from 8–12 on the Murfreesboro Public Square!

Did you know you can grow unlimited tomato plants from your suckers? Prune those beautiful girls and get those suckers off! We’ve been making a little sucker garden for our own experiment, and it’s been a fun project. All we do is pop off the suckers, stick them in about 2 inches of organic soil and within a few days roots start to establish and we can repot these as they grow!

Thank you all so much for the support at the market today, especially everyone who came out and shopped in the rain. We truly appreciate every single one of you and can’t wait to see your gardens thrive this season.

For the best success with your tomatoes:

1. Prepare your soil with compost or another nutrient-rich amendment before planting.

2. Dig either a trench about 6 inches deep or a deep hole so you can plant the tomato low in the ground. See our earlier video posted on James planting using the trench method.

3. Remove all the leaves from the lower portion of the plant and leave only about 6 inches of growth sticking out above the soil once planted.

4. If your plant is leaning or not perfectly upright after planting, don’t worry. Within a couple days it will naturally turn itself toward the sun.

5. Give the plant a deep and thorough first watering using non-chlorinated water if possible.

6. After that first watering, leave it alone for a few days. Tomatoes do much better when their roots are encouraged to search for water. Wait until the plant begins to slightly droop in the afternoon sun before watering again.

7. Make sure your tomatoes get full sun, ideally at least 6 hours or more daily.

8. If your plant already has flowers or small fruit on it, remove them. Continue removing any new flowers or fruit during the first week after planting so the plant can focus all of its energy on building a strong root system first.

9. Tomatoes also prefer water with a pH between 6.0 and 6.8.

Be sure to tag us in your garden and plant photos, we love seeing them grow. And if you ever have questions, send us a message anytime. We’re here to help you thrive.

Quail eggs are coming this week to the market!

Our tomato starters will be buy 2 get 1 free. We still have all 6 varieties: Black Krim, Cherokee Purple, Beefsteak, Red Cherry, Brandywine Pink, & Mortgage Lifters. They’re about to be 4 months old & we’ve fed them this week with some of our home-brewed compost tea!

Our green pea microgreens are back! We’ll have our $3/oz mix and match microgreens with the following varieties: green pea, sunflower, radish, broccoli, kale, wasabi mustard, and cabbage.

Show us your ‘maters! Tag us in your tomato starts you bought from us, we are excited to see everyone’s progress!

We planted these starters just a few weeks ago and we can already see the fruits of our labor. Plus, a cute little bee in a marigold.

We’ll be at the market this Saturday with our tomato starts, microgreens, and Quail Eggs!

Happy World Bee Day! Our ladies have been hard at work, this colony came from a neighbor’s nectarine tree after they swarmed and they are doing great! Check out the little baby bee eggs in the honeycomb.
