Feel Better Friday ☀️

Feeling drained? Perimenopause fatigue is no joke. This 46-year-young gal has been extra tired this week. One thing that can be super helpful is stepping outside for 10-15 minutes in the morning if you can. Even better if you can get a quick walk in outside to kick off the day. If your mornings are a little too chaotic, try getting outside on your lunch break.

It isn’t a magic fix, but it’s one of those simple habits that can make a bigger difference than people realize. Morning sunlight is especially great for improved energy and MOOD. Sometimes feeling better starts with basic things we don’t always think about.

If all else fails, coffee. 😆

Most days, it doesn’t feel like you’re getting very far.

Then one day you look back and realize you’ve come farther than you ever gave yourself credit for.

If you’re in the middle of building something, healing from something, or working toward something that feels far away…

Keep going. Progress is sneaky. Have the best day! 🤍

PS Future me is probably going to look back at this video and laugh at how much has changed. Here’s to the next two months!

It’s time for so let’s do a little challenge.

One thing I’ve found while discussing nutrition with patients is that women simply aren’t getting enough protein. But let’s be practical here. I don’t expect you to overhaul your entire diet this week. Instead, simply ask yourself how you can add 20-30 grams of protein in the morning. Before you say that you aren’t a breakfast person…I get it. I really do not like to eat much in the mornings either. But reality is, we need to strive for protein-packed meals so why not front load that? It doesn’t have to be a ton of food or difficult to prepare. Here are some examples that are light and easy to whip up ahead of time and eat on the go:

—Egg white omelet or bites (I like to make them with spinach and roasted red peppers. Prepare them ahead of time and heat on your way out the door.)
—Greek yogurt smoothie with a protein packed plain yogurt + fruits/greens (throw in a little protein powder for added protein)
—Greek yogurt with berries (I dice up a couple of strawberries and add blueberries with a drizzle of organic honey)
—Turkey sausage/bacon and egg breakfast wrap

One simple change. Big impact over time. 💪

Let’s discuss three sneaky signs your body may be under too much STRESS.

Not just “I’m busy” stress. I’m talking the kind that can affect your hormones, sleep, mental health, energy, and just plain suck the life out of you.

1. You wake up tired…even after sleeping.

2. You crave sugar or carbs every afternoon.

3. You feel “wired” yet exhausted at night.

Stress doesn’t just affect your mind. It impacts your entire body. When stress sticks around for weeks or months, you may notice things like low energy, brain fog, poor sleep, weight changes, irritability, and even frequent illness or “run down” feeling.

That doesn’t automatically mean your cortisol is “broken” or that you have “adrenal fatigue” (not a huge fan of that term but we will discuss more later). It means your body may be asking for more recovery than it’s getting. Oh snap.

Sometimes the healthiest thing you can do isn’t adding another supplement or weekend plan. Prioritizing a healthy sleep schedule, getting enough protein, eating a anti-inflammatory diet, taking a walk, or simply saying “no” are some of the most powerful ways to protect your peace and decrease stress levels.

What are some things you do that helps you recharge? Or is your battery ☠️?

Myth Buster Monday

One of the hardest things for women to hear is “Good news…your labs are normal.” (Insert womp womp here.)

Why? Because when you still feel exhausted, anxious, foggy, aren’t sleeping well, or don’t recognize yourself anymore, it doesn’t feel like good news.

Labs matter. They absolutely do. But they should never entirely replace listening to the person sitting in front of me.

Sometimes the answer is in the labs.
Sometimes it’s in your symptoms.
Most often, it’s in looking at both together.

If you’ve ever left an appointment feeling unheard because everything was “normal,” you’re definitely not alone.

If this is you, I would love the chance to help you feel like yourself again. If you’d like to receive helpful, relatable info directly to your inbox, I encourage you to sign up for the newsletter!🤍

Sometimes the healthiest thing we can do is accept that everything doesn’t have to get done in one day and toss aside the mile-long list to-do list. 🤍

Happy Father’s Day! I hope you’ve been able to slow down and enjoy your people today.

Feel Better Friday 💪

If you’re a woman in midlife, please don’t underestimate the power of strength training.

Here are 5 reasons I encourage it:

1. Helps preserve (and build) muscle as our estrogen tanks.

2. Supports a healthy metabolism and makes everyday activities easier overall (remember, we are preserving those muscles).

3. Helps keep bones strong and lowers the risk of osteoporosis.

4. Improves cardiovascular health, decreasing blood pressure and cholesterol.

5. One of my favorites during this stage of life…IMPROVED MOOD AND ENERGY. This is no joke, gals. Ask my kids how hype I am after I do a workout. My teen would tell you it’s absolutely annoying.

You don’t have to become a bodybuilder. Simply start where you are. Even two or three sessions a week can have lasting benefits! You can do this at home with a few sets of dumbbells or find a gym that you like. We have some great women-owned (and women only) gyms in our area, and there are many online programs you can do at home. I would be happy to recommend some programs that I’ve personally tried. I do advise following some sort of program that will give you structure and purpose with your workouts rather than just doing random things here and there.

I typically work out at home because that’s what works best for me. And I’m quite the introvert. Anyone else like this? 🫣

Thinking out loud this Thursday

One thing I’ve learned while building this women’s wellness practice is that progress looks different than I thought it would.

Some days I’m reviewing labs, answering patient messages, and feeling like I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be.

Other days I’m reorganizing my office, second-guessing my life choices (ha!), or wondering if I’m doing enough. The funny thing is…both kinds of days are part of building something meaningful.

I think we often assume success happens because someone never doubts themselves. In reality, I think it happens because they keep showing up anyway (and never doubting yourself doesn’t hurt).

If you’re in a season where progress feels slower than you’d like, keep going. Small, consistent steps have a way of becoming something MUCH bigger than we realize.

Happy Thursday 🫶🏼
