One of the biggest misconceptions about massage therapy is that every technique is supposed to feel the same... Nope.

The truth? Every technique has a very specific purpose.

Some techniques are designed to relax the nervous system. Others help improve nobility, reduce muscle tension, support recovery, encourage lymphatic flow, or address specific areas of pain and dysfunction.

That's why a skilled massage isn't about using the most pressure; it's about using the right technique at the right time for all the right reasons.

Think of it like a toolbox: A hammer, screwdriver, and wrench all have different jobs. Massage techniques are no different.

The goal isn't to do everything, but to do exactly what your body needs.

What do you prefer? Deep pressure, gentle relaxation, or maybe somewhere in between? 👇🏽☺️

Your piriformis may be small, but it can cause some BIG discomfort when it's tight!
Give this piriformis stretch a try to help loosen up your hips, improve your mobility, and show vour glutes a little love.

🔸️ Figure 4 Piriformis Stretch (Lying Down)
Lie on vour back with both knees bent and feet flat on the floor (or in this case a massage table ). Cross one ankle over the opposite knee, creating a "4" shape. Reach behind the supporting thigh and gently pull it toward your chest until you feel a stretch in the hip and glute. Hold for 20-30 seconds and repeat on the other side.

🔸️ Fiqure 4 Piriformis Stretch (Seated)
Sit upright in a chair with both feet flat on the floor. Place one ankle on the opposite knee, forming a "4" shape. Keeping your back straight, gently lean forward from vour hips until vou feel a stretch in the glute and outer hip. Hold for 20-30 seconds and switch sides

🔸️ Figure 4 Piriformis Stretch (Standinc Using a Bed)
Stand facing a bed and place one ankle on the edge of the bed, just above the opposite knee, creating a "4" shape cle Slowly sit your hips back while keeping your chest lifted. You should feel a stretch in the glute and hip of the elevated leg Hold for 20-30 seconds, then repeat on the other side.

Which version feels best for you: the ying, sitting, or standing variation? Let me know below! 👇🏽

Yeah, it's complicated...
The Iumphatic sustem is one of the most fascinating and misunderstood systems in the human body. Unlike vour circulatory system, it doesn't have a heart to pump fluid around. Instead, it relies on regular muscle movement, breathing, and specialized lymphatic vessels to help transport excess fluid, waste products, proteins, and cellular debris awav from the tissues.

When the lymphatic system isn't functioning efficiently, fluid can accumulate and swelling may occur, which typically happens in the limbs. That's why movement, hydration, deep breathing, and proper lymphatic function are so important for overall health. And that's just scratching the surface. The more I learn about the human body, the more amazed I am by how intricately it was designed.

Pretty amazing for a system most people have never heard much about, isn't it? What's one thing you've learned about the lymphatic system that surprised you?

Let me know in the comments 😊👇🏽

We live in a world where stress, anxiety, burnout, chronic pain, and nervous system dysregulation have become so “normal” that many people don’t even realize how disconnected their bodies truly feel anymore.

But what if therapeutic touch and nervous system regulation are far more important than society realizes?

What if the body isn’t just “overreacting”… but actually crying out for safety, rest, connection, and healing??

So many people are stuck in constant fight-or-flight mode:
• Tight shoulders
• Jaw clenching
• Poor sleep
• Fatigue
• Anxiety
• Digestive issues
• Chronic tension
• Feeling emotionally overwhelmed or numb

And yet we rarely talk about how powerful safe, intentional therapeutic touch can be for helping the nervous system regulate and reset.

Massage therapy isn’t just about relaxation.
It can help the body feel safe again with intentional therapeutic touch.

The human body was never designed to function under nonstop stress 24/7.

Sometimes healing doesn’t begin with “pushing harder.”
There are times when it begins with slowing down, breathing deeper, regulating the nervous system, and allowing the body to finally exhale.

I truly believe therapeutic touch is one of the most overlooked forms of wellness in modern society, which is the reason I am considering a certification in Somatic healing.

Massage therapy may help stimulate the vagus nerve, which plays a major role in calming the nervous system and supporting "rest-and-digest" functions.
It's sad that most people are walking around stuck in stress mode without even realizing it.
The vagus nerve is one of the longest and most important nerves in the body. It connectsthe brain to major organs including the heart, lungs and digestive system, helping to regulate:
✨️ Heart rate
✨️ Breathing
✨️ Digestion
✨️ Stress response
✨️ Relaxation
✨️ Emotional regulation

When the nervous system is constantly stressed, overwhelmed, anxious, overworked or stuck in "go mode", the body can stay trapped in fight-or-flight for long periods of time.

That can contribute to:
🔹️Tight muscles
🔹️ Jaw clenching
🔹️ Headaches
🔹️ Shallow breathing
🔹️ Fatigue
🔹️ Poor sleep
🔹️ Digestive issues
🔹️ Anxiety and tension
🔹️ Feeling constantly "on edge"

This is one reason massage therapy can feel so much deeper than simply "relaxing the muscles".
Safe, therapeutic touch may help encourage the nervous system to shift into a calmer parasympathetic state; the state where the body can finally slow down, repair, digest, recover, and breathe more deeply.

Here are a few fascinating facts:
🔹️ Slow, intentional touch may help activate calming pathways in the nervous system
🔹️ Deep Breathing during massage may further support vagaries tone and relaxation. Calming the nervous may help lower heart rate and reduce stress hormone activity.
So many of my clients don't realize how tense they are until their body finally starts relaxing on the table.
The body often responds to feeling safe before it responds to healing.
