If this is how you feel this Spring, give us a call. We have many ways to get your environmental allergies under control. This includes allergy drops (sublingual immunotherapy) for those who do not like needles, or don't have time to come to the office for allergy shots.

For anyone on allergy shots who is planning to receive one of the COVID19 vaccine: We recommend you wait 7 days after receiving the COVID19 vaccine before you receive your next allergy injection. This will help minimize any reactions.

We continue to see children every week with a history of food allergies who have been repeatedly told by their pediatrician and other allergists -including those at academic settings - that there is no treatment for their food allergies - they should just keep avoiding the food and come back in a year for testing and an epipen refill. This is very frustrating to us. Yes, there are safe and effective treatments for food allergies! We began offering food oral immunotherapy (OIT) in 2017 and have treated hundreds of patients safely and successfully. We also began our food sublingual immunotherapy (allergy drops) treatment last summer. We are able to successfully treat a number of food allergies including peanut, almond, cashew, pistachio, walnut, pecan, hazelnut, sesame seed, cow milk, egg, soybean, pea, fish and shellfish.

Unfortunately the FDA has denied approval of the peanut patch Viaskin. The FDA has identified concerns regarding the impact of patch-site adhesion on efficacy and indicated the need for patch modifications, and subsequently a new human factor study. It may thus be years before a peanut patch becomes available, if it ever becomes available. This is disappointing news as the patch would have been a nice addition to our tool box in the fight against food allergies. The good news is that food oral immunotherapy (OIT) and food sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT, or allergy drops) are safe and effective treatment options for anyone desiring to treat their food allergies. We are proud to be the only office in Western Pennsylvania to offer these two cutting edge medical treatments.
