Why do we put strength training first during our workouts?

1) Hitting heavy weights first ensures you get maximum power output and muscular stimulation.

2) Starting fresh prevents fatigue-induced injuries that can occur when doing complex lifts at the end of a class.

3) Emptying the glycogen “tank” via weightlifting
first forces your body to transition into fat oxidation much faster once you step onto the cardio equipment.

Unless your goal is primarily endurance based, we’re big fans of starting your workouts with the strength training portion and then transitioning into the cardio position afterwards.

What if you faced your fear and just started?

The fear of failure, judgement, feeling exposed, keeps a lot of us from our goals.
We put off making the one decision that can literally change our entire lives for the better.

A year from now, you could have more strength confidence, energy, and your clothes could fit better simply because of the decision you made today.

Here’s a quick tip to overcome the fear of failure in the gym:
⭐Shift the focus to “showing up” as the only metric.

The goal: simply walk through the gym doors, change into workout clothes, and spend 10 minutes on a treadmill or bike.

The mindset: If you complete those 10 minutes, you won. Anything else you do is a bonus. This removes pressure of ex*****on and builds the foundational habit of just being in the space.

Consistently good > Occasionally great

If you’re feeling like you’re in a rut and need a push to level up, these three things will help!

1) Get around the right people - Find an accountability buddy or a community of people who are trying to do the same thing that you want to do. When you’re around other people who want to level up, you naturally level up too!

2) Track your progress - What gets measured gets managed. Tracking, monitoring, or measuring a metric brings it into focus, allowing for better control and improvement. It’s hard to know what you did before if you don’t track it.

3) Remember why you’re doing this in the first place - What was the moment you said, “enough is enough.” What is the reason for starting this process in the first place? Was there certain clothes you couldn’t fit into? A situation in your life that you wished your fitness was better? Is someone watching that you want to be a positive example for? The WHY has to be bigger than the short term temptations that try to pull you off track.

This keeps a lot of us from making progress.

We wait for the perfect time to start.

“I’ll start tomorrow.”
“I’ll start next week.”
“Monday it is GAME ON!”

And Monday comes and the game in fact wasn’t on.

Life has a way of “lifeing” which means it’s unpredictable. Waiting for the perfect time to start the process of improving your health and fitness is silly, because there will never be a “perfect time.”

Take action now towards the person you want to become. You know you can do it, stop talking yourself out of it. Otherwise a year from now you’re going to be wishing you started today.
