We criticized conventional medicine for having a pill for every problem.

Then wellness built its own pharmacy.

Magnesium for sleep.
Ashwagandha for stress.
Probiotics for the gut.
Collagen. Vitamin D. Omega-3s. Greens powders. Adaptogens…

Before you know it, taking care of yourself requires a pill organizer and a spreadsheet.

I’m not anti-supplement. I use them. I recommend them.

But I do think we need to ask:

Does every bottle have a reason for being there?

Do you still need it?
Are you duplicating ingredients?
Has it actually made a difference?

Maybe the next step in your health isn’t adding something.

Maybe it’s figuring out what actually deserves to be there.

I wrote about this on the blog this week — including a simple supplement audit you can do at home.

Read it at the link in my bio.

And tell me: how many supplement bottles are on your counter right now? 👇

We criticized conventional medicine for having a pill for every problem.

Then wellness built its own pharmacy.

Magnesium for sleep. Ashwagandha for stress. Probiotics for the gut. Collagen for skin and joints. Vitamin D. Omega-3s. Greens powders. Protein powders. Adaptogens.

And somehow, taking care of ourselves started requiring a pill organizer and a spreadsheet.

I’m not anti-supplement. I use them. I recommend them.

But when I sit down with someone and ask what they’re taking, I’m often less interested in how many bottles there are than in one question:

Does every bottle have a reason for being there?

Who recommended it? What was it supposed to address? Do you still need it? Are you duplicating ingredients? And perhaps most importantly — has it actually made a difference?

We talk endlessly about personalized health, while simultaneously taking the same supplements everyone else has been told they “should” take.

Maybe the next step in your health isn’t adding something.

Maybe it’s figuring out what actually deserves to be there.

That’s what I’m writing about this week:

What if the symptom isn’t where the problem started?

I’ve been hiking in Maine this week, surrounded by trees whose roots cross the trails and disappear underground.

And it got me thinking.

Hair thinning. Digestion changing. Poor sleep. Fatigue.

We naturally focus on the thing that’s showing up.

But sometimes the symptom is simply where something that began months earlier finally becomes visible.

Ayurveda taught me to ask:

What happened upstream?

Maybe instead of only asking “How do I make this go away?” we should also ask:

“What changed before this began?”

Your body has a history.

What if the symptom you’re treating isn’t actually where the problem started?

I’ve spent the last few days hiking in the woods in Maine, and I keep noticing the roots.

They push through the trails, wrap around rocks and disappear back into the earth. You see the tree — but so much of what sustains it is happening underneath.

It got me thinking about our health.

Hair thinning? We focus on the hair.
Bloating? We focus on the gut.
Can’t sleep? We focus on sleep.
Exhausted? We look for more energy.

But bodies have histories.

Sometimes the thing bothering us today is simply where something that began months ago finally became visible.

One of the questions Ayurveda taught me to ask is surprisingly simple:

What happened upstream?

The point isn’t to ignore symptoms. It’s to stop assuming that where a symptom appears is necessarily where the story began.

This week I’m writing about a question I think we should ask much more often:

What changed before this started?

Read: What If the Problem Is in the Roots? https://theholistichighway.com/what-if-the-problem-is-in-the-roots/

And I’m curious — have you ever traced a health problem back to something you hadn’t connected it with at first?

When did we stop trusting our bodies?

We have never had more information about our health.

We count our steps. Track our sleep. Measure our protein. Watch our glucose. Monitor our heart rate.

And somehow, with all that information, I’m not convinced we understand ourselves any better.

Don’t misunderstand me. I love data. Genetics, epigenetics, lab testing and wearable technology can tell us extraordinary things.

But a number can tell us something important without telling us the whole story.

Ten thousand steps might be wonderful for one person and completely inappropriate for someone whose body is exhausted and asking for recovery.

A food can look perfect on paper and leave you bloated and miserable.

Eight hours in bed doesn’t necessarily mean you woke up restored.

The question I think we need to ask more often isn’t:

“Is this healthy?”

It’s:

“Is this healthy for me?”

That distinction is at the heart of how I think about health — and why I believe modern science and the wisdom of Ayurveda belong in the same conversation.

I wrote more about this — and why I think we need to stop asking “Is this healthy?” and start asking “Is this healthy for me?”

We all know Felice. We all love Felice. And we definitely all love to sweat with Felice. ❤️

Right now, it’s our turn to show up for her.

Felice was recently diagnosed with cancer and has already endured multiple surgeries as part of her treatment. She still has a long road ahead as she recovers and waits to learn what the next steps will be.

Unfortunately, her cancer has also affected her ability to talk — and when your job is teaching, motivating and connecting with people through your voice, that means being out of work for an extended period of time.

So we’re going to do what the RHY community does best: COME TOGETHER.

Join Wendy for a very special Tone + Sculpt fundraiser class for Felice. We’ll sweat, move, lift and love on one of our own while raising money to help ease some of the financial burden while Felice focuses on the most important thing — healing and getting back on her feet.

Let’s fill this room for Felice. ❤️

Come sweat for her. Come support her. Come remind her just how many people are standing beside her through this fight.

Class is a minimum $10 donation, but feel free to donate whatever you feel called to donate. If you can’t make it to the class, you can use the QR code to donate directly.

All proceeds will go directly to Felice to support her during her recovery.

Hi everyone! With thunderstorms forecast for this evening, we’ve made the call to reschedule tonight’s Reset & Flow. With the President also in town and possible road closures, it feels like the right decision all around.

We’ll share the new date very soon — and hopefully see you back on the beach under much better skies!
