Breath Of Life Healthcare

Breath of Life Healthcare was born out of deep concern for the growing number of women and children falling through the cracks of our medical system.

Carter and Jeannie Smith, both medical professionals who founded Coastline Women’s Center 14 years ago in Horry County, recognized ongoing needs among the women and children they served. These needs were also recognized among other families and friends in the community.

Welcome Kristy Lowry to the Breath of Life Healthcare Team! Kristy is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner with three years of experience in family practice, providing compassionate, patient-centered care across the lifespan. She has a special interest in women’s health, mental health, and integrating functional and traditional medicine to promote overall wellness. Kristy is also passionate about supporting women who have experienced or are considering abortion by providing compassionate, nonjudgmental care. A North Myrtle Beach resident, she is the proud mother of two adult daughters and is excited to welcome her first grandson. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, making memories with her significant other, traveling, relaxing at the beach, and reading.

A big shout out to the students from Mull's Grove Baptist Church for their hard work today - mulching and planting in front of the building at Breath of Life Healthcare. Lots of hard work - and so appreciated! We are so thankful for so many who continue to volunteer in so many ways as we prepare to open the doors to the community - we are so close!

Tammy Tate is a registered nurse with over four decades of experience in women’s and children’s health. She holds a master’s degree in Christian counseling psychology and carries certifications in both Hospice and Palliative Care and Perinatal Bereavement. In 2008, Tammy co-founded Perinatal Comfort Care alongside her husband and a local perinatologist — a ministry dedicated to walking with families who choose to continue their pregnancies after receiving a life-limiting prenatal diagnosis. Through compassionate guidance and heartfelt support, she has helped countless families honor and celebrate the lives of their beloved babies, however brief those lives may be. Tammy is the author of Gift of a Lifetime, published by Focus on the Family, and she has also written a curriculum for educating and training Pregnancy Care Centers interested in providing this specialized training for their staff.

With a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and years of hands-on experience in family healthcare, Carter brings clinical excellence and heartfelt compassion to every aspect of the clinic. Driven by a deep commitment to restoring dignity and trust in the healthcare experience, Carter established Breath of Life to provide holistic, naturally minded care in a judgement-free environment. Under his leadership, Breath of Life Healthcare is more than a clinic; it’s a haven for families seeking wellness, understanding, and hope.

Jeannie Scott Smith is the visionary Co-Founder of Breath of Life Healthcare and a licensed Physical Therapist Assistant with a deep-rooted passion for serving others through restorative and holistic care. Her vision for Breath of Life was born out of a desire to create a healthcare environment where every person feels safe, respected, and supported, no matter their background or beliefs. Jeannie’s heart for hospitality and healing is woven into every detail of the clinic’s culture, helping to ensure that Breath of Life remains a place of peace, dignity, and hope.

It's so exciting to walk through the Breath of Life Healthcare space and see everything coming together - the beautiful multipurpose room in the back, the pediatric exam room, the welcoming entry, the upstairs nurses' station, the special artwork from friends - all so carefully planned with the clients in mind! It won't be long before we are ready to open to the community!

Dr. Derek Pride serves as the Medical Director of Breath of Life Healthcare, providing clinical leadership rooted in compassion, integrity, and a patient-centric approach to medicine. As a Doctor of Osteopathy, Dr. Pride deeply understands the body’s natural ability to heal, integrating traditional medical care with a patient-centric and individualized treatment plan for each patient.

His commitment to patient-centered care is foundational to Breath of Life's mission of creating a safe, supportive environment where families are truly seen, heard, and cared for.

So much is happening behind the scenes of Breath of Life Healthcare with lots of administrative prep, finishing work on the inside - all in preparation for the anticipated opening in June!

We'd like to introduce you to the team, beginning with Dr. Karyn Markley. Dr. Markley is a board-certified OB-GYN and Medical Director of Women’s Health at Breath of Life Healthcare. With extensive experience in obstetrics and gynecology, Dr. Markley brings both clinical excellence and a heartfelt approach to her work. She honors the physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of women’s health and is passionate about creating a space where women feel truly safe, heard, and empowered in their healthcare decisions.

Dr. Markley’s leadership will help guide Breath of Life’s vision for accessible, naturally minded care, and her presence ensures that every woman receives compassionate, comprehensive support through pregnancy, wellness, and beyond.
