🏃‍♀️ HIIT at 6am felt amazing at 35. At 44, it might be quietly wrecking your hormones. I know it became a HUGE issue for me - at almost 43.

In perimenopause, the cortisol spike from high-intensity exercise doesn’t clear the way it used to. Estrogen buffered that response. Without it, chronic HIIT can mean more belly fat storage, worse sleep, and a nervous system that never fully comes down.

The format matters more than the effort. Strength training, walking, and slow breath-led movement do things for your hormones and nervous system that high intensity simply can’t.

🙈You’re seeing your anxiety spiking. Sleep tanking. Cycle all over the place.

And here’s the thing. You started a “weight loss drug” a couple months ago and suddenly your hormones feel like they’re ready to go on strike.

Your doctor said it’s “probably perimenopause”.🙄

Maybe. But let’s not skip an important step.

GLP-1 drugs work by mimicking glucagon-like peptide-1, which is a gut hormone that regulates blood sugar and appetite. What most people aren’t told is that GLP-1 receptors exist throughout your body. Your whole body. Your brain. Your immune cells. Your reproductive system.

When you add a drug that activates that entire pathway, especially at 40+ when your hormonal system is already changing, the downstream effects are not neutral. And the thing is - I’m not against being on a GLP-1 in midlife. I’m on one myself. What I am against is women not being given the full picture on what they are getting themselves into.

A study analyzing over 400,000 women on GLP-1 medications found they were reporting menstrual irregularities, hot flashes, and chills at rates that weren’t captured in the original clinical trials. These aren’t rare edge cases. They just weren’t being connected to the drug.

Here’s what I want you to ask before starting, or if you’re already on one and something feels off:

•Was my baseline hormone panel pulled before I started?
•Is anyone looking at what’s actually driving the weight gain or inflammation?
•Is this a root cause conversation or a symptom management play?

I was just like you. I did everything right. Journaling, praying, breathwork, grounding, eating well, exercising, hydrating. Went to my doctor. Labs were pretty much normal. ER drs told me to ask about anti-anxiety meds and therapy, while cardiologist prescribed a beta blocker for my panic attacks and sent me on my way.

And I still kept short-circuiting. The rage. The anxiety. The f*cking insomnia. Gahhh! The exhaustion. The overstimulation. Every few weeks, right back at square one.

Here’s what nobody had told me: it wasn’t a mindset problem. It was my nervous system - and it had been running in survival mode for so long it had reorganized itself around “threat”. Everything felt dangerous. A question from my husband. A sick kid. A wet sock at 6am. I couldn’t stop thinking I was gonna flat out die. Seriously. More journaling won’t fix it. More deep breaths won’t fix it (if you’re still spending most of the day in a stress response). More mindset work won’t fix it if your body still thinks it’s not safe.

The nervous system responds to the body.
Breath. Movement. Temperature. Touch. Sound. Rhythm.

These are not soft wellness suggestions. They are the actual inputs your nervous system uses to decide whether you’re safe.

Thinking is downstream of that. You can’t logic your way to calm. You have to signal it.

Estrogen and histamine drive each other in a loop. When estrogen fluctuates in perimenopause and progesterone, which stabilizes mast cells, also declines - that loop goes haywire.

Mast cells get reactive. Histamine builds faster than your body can clear it. And it shows up as allergies, flushing, wine reactions, gut issues, anxiety spikes, and migraines that seem to come from literally nowhere.

Not random. Not new. Your hormonal buffers are changing.
