This Mental Health Awareness Month, therapist Adam Ratner wrote a powerful new blog post highlighting an important conversation around mental health awareness and su***de prevention featuring our own Philip Martinez, LCPC.

In the post, Adam reflects on Philip’s recent appearance on WLS 890AM with Ray Stevens, where they discussed su***de prevention, stigma surrounding mental health, warning signs to look for, and the importance of creating more open conversations around seeking support.

Adam also shares more about Philip’s 30 years of clinical experience, his longstanding work with teenagers, young adults, and families, and his more than two decades of involvement with the American Foundation for Su***de Prevention, where he currently serves as Board Chair for the Illinois chapter.

You can follow the link within the blog post to listen to Philip’s full radio interview.

The transition from high school to college is exciting . But it can also bring anxiety, pressure, uncertainty, and major emotional adjustment for both students and families.

In this new blog post, our therapist and co-owner Adam Ratner explores the often overlooked mental health side of this transition, including identity shifts, social pressure, stress, independence, and the emotional complexity that can come with leaving familiar routines behind.

Adam brings valuable clinical insight and experience working closely with teens, young adults, and families navigating major life transitions. His perspective offers both practical guidance and reassurance for students and parents entering this next chapter.

Strong communication is built through listening, empathy, respect, repair, and a willingness to keep showing up for one another. Even during difficult conversations.

Small shifts in the way we communicate can help family members feel more heard, understood, and emotionally supported over time.

In honor of International Day of Families, we’re sharing a few reminders about what healthy communication can look like within families

Social media can help us feel connected. But it can also leave us feeling overwhelmed, overstimulated, anxious, or constantly comparing ourselves to others.

The truth is, we were never meant to absorb endless information, opinions, news, and highlight reels all day without it impacting our mental health.

Setting boundaries online doesn’t mean you have to disappear completely. It can simply mean becoming more intentional about what you consume, who you engage with, and how often you allow yourself to unplug.

Protecting your mental space matters 🤍

It’s Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day 💛
Every child experiences big emotions. But when those feelings become overwhelming or hard to manage, extra support can make a meaningful difference.

Counseling gives children a safe space to express themselves, build coping skills, and feel understood.

If something feels off, it’s okay to trust your instincts. You don’t have to wait for things to get worse to seek support.

Therapy isn’t just for crisis moments. It’s for navigating change, building coping skills, improving relationships, and understanding yourself on a deeper level.

You don’t have to “have it all figured out” to start. You just have to be willing to take the first step

April is National Stress Awareness Month. A reminder to slow down and check in with yourself.

Stress shows up in all kinds of ways, but small, intentional moments can help bring you back to center. Grounding techniques, like focusing on your breath, engaging your senses, or gently reconnecting with your body, can make a real difference when things feel overwhelming.

You don’t have to eliminate stress completely to take care of yourself. You just need tools to move through it.

Take a moment today to pause, breathe, and reset 🤍
