Congratulations are in order for our Assistive Technology Assistant Jeffrey Zacarias! He will be joining Citibank as a summer HR analyst in Tampa. He wrote the following regarding the big news:
“I am extremely proud of this achievement. However, I could not have done it alone.
Lighthouse of Collier has played a huge part in developing my personal and professional skills. Being able to develop my communication, teamwork, and time management skills in an environment where the people around me understand my challenges has been a privilege. Now I get to challenge myself in a new environment where my coworkers may not know what individuals like me can accomplish in the professional world.
Nonprofits like LOC are extremely important because personal growth starts at a young age. I lived with a lack of guidance in my younger years because I had never met anyone else who was blind or visually impaired. Attending summer camp with other LOC students changed that for me. Being able to share those common struggles in a safe space while being taught how to develop personal skills is extremely important for children who live with vision loss.”
Jeffrey starts his internship June 1. The entire LOC team is so proud of him! 👏👏

BREAKING NEWS! 📰 Lighthouse of Collier officially bought a van for its Children’s Program! LOC CEO Robin Goldstone Garcia signed the paperwork and drove the van off the lot at Tamiami Ford this afternoon. We want to give a BIG thank you to Tamiami Ford and the Naples Children Foundation for making this all possible! The van 🚐 will ease transportation struggles for kids and their families. It will also make it easier on our staff who had to rely on rental vans in the past to drive students to different activities. We still need to get the van wrapped with the LOC and NCF logos. Stay tuned for the final look! 👀

Thank you to our AMAZING Program Director Kerry Birchall for stepping in today to teach our Independent Living Skills (ILS) Class. Clients learned how to make sandwiches and yogurt parfaits. They also chopped their own vegetables and fruit! 🍎 🍓 🍅 🥬

Lighthouse of Collier was invited to the 2026 Naples Children Foundation Grant Award Ceremony at The Ritz-Carlton, Tiburon Monday evening. It was great to see the remarkable impact NCF has on our local community. It raised more than $30 million at this year’s Naples Winter Wine Festival! That funding helps thousands of children, including those in our children’s program, be successful. Thank you, NCF! 🌟

Lighthouse of Collier would like to share the first episode of "Blind Inspirations" with you. Bobby Carr, the creator of Blind Inspirations, gives a firsthand look into what it was like to lose his vision. He refused to give up and relied on long walks and AI to help him. Bobby encourages others who are living with vision loss to share their own personal stories. LOC plans to include the episodes in its newsletters. Carr gave us permission to share his work.

Lighthouse of Collier wants to give a HUGE thank you to the Everglades Lions Club for its generous donation at Thursday night's meeting. We were honored to be invited to present at your meeting. The icing on the cake was receiving a $5,000 check! LOC is truly grateful for the support and recognition.

The Everglades Lions Club consists of hardworking volunteers who want to improve the lives of others in their community. They help people in need get free or low-cost eye exams and glasses. They also raise money for local school programs and community projects. Don't miss out on their upcoming Turkey Shoot on March 21 and 22 at Mayberry Cypress Tower Camp! PSA: We are in need of five volunteers for our upcoming Spring Camp March 9-11 from 10 - 3 p.m. You will help supervise the kids on field trips and assist them with activities at The Lighthouse (ex: crafts, meal prep, etc.)

We also need five volunteers for a kayaking excursion March 14 from 10 to noon. The event will take place out of Paddle Bonita.
