Longevity research is finding that certain biomarkers can signal disease years before symptoms appear, and that small, measurable shifts in these numbers can meaningfully extend both how long and how well you live. Researchers have found that a higher resting heart rate is an independent risk factor for mortality, as it can be elevated for various reasons, including diabetes, cardiovascular disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and many other chronic conditions. The best predictor of outcomes is our nighttime resting heart rate because it’s more stable and not affected by our daily activities and stress.

Cottage cheese is having a moment, the diet relic has muscled its way back into the spotlight, fueled by influencers, and anyone chasing cheap, convenient protein. High protein, low sugar, low calorie, low cost; it’s basically the health‑food algorithm in dairy form. It’s affordable muscle fuel with real staying power. Cottage cheese is considered a fresh cheese since it’s not aged and curd size varies among brands, with some offering smaller lump options. When discussing the virtues of cottage cheese, it certainly makes sense to start with protein, the macro everyone seems obsessed with. With roughly 13 grams of protein in a half-cup serving (80-100 calories), this dairy product is clearly a protein standout. Though it’s the protein in cottage cheese that grabs all the headlines, it also has calcium and phosphorus (vital for bone health), potassium, selenium, and vitamin B12, a nutrient that helps keep the body’s red blood cells and nervous system healthy.

Pride destroys relationships. It shows up in a lot of different forms, like criticism, competition, stubbornness, and superficiality. The problem with pride is that it’s self-deceiving. When you have too much pride, you don’t see it in your life, but everyone else does. While pride destroys relationships, humility serves as its antidote, building relationships instead. Let Jesus Christ begin to control your thoughts, heart, and attitude. Proverbs 16:18 (NCV) says, “Pride leads to destruction; a proud attitude brings ruin.”

While the health benefits of walking are evident, there are some mistakes that could reverse progress. For instance, walking with your head down, scrolling on your phone. Scrolling also puts the neck in a downward position, making the head heavier, which changes your posture from the top down, which can be a problem if you're someone who struggles with neck pain, back pain or shoulder pain. Also, you should consider your walking speed. While most people walk at about 3 miles per hour, to reap a higher level benefits you might increase to 3 1/2 - 4 miles an hour. A daily walk will have bigger payoffs than only walking once or twice a week. Finally, make sure that your shoes fit properly. (This may mean being fitted by a professional.)

For years, Ozempic and similar GLP-1 medications have dominated the weight loss conversation—but a new drug from Eli Lilly may soon shift the landscape. In a newly-announced Phase 3 clinical trial, the triple receptor agonist drug retatrutide delivered some of the most dramatic weight loss results seen to date. Its use also came with an unexpected bonus: Meaningful relief from knee osteoarthritis pain. What makes retatrutide different is how it works. While Ozempic targets a single hormone pathway (GLP-1), retatrutide activates three receptors: GLP-1, GIP, and glucagon. This broader hormonal approach may help explain its outsized effects on weight loss and metabolism. While the once-weekly shot appears to be the most effective weight loss drug yet, it’s important to note that retatrutide is not yet FDA-approved. If approved, retatrutide may not just rival Ozempic—it could redefine what’s possible in medical weight loss. However, it could take months, or years, to see the high-performing product in pharmacies.

Maybe there’s been a time in your life when you prayed and prayed for God to do something, to help you out with a problem, but years went by without an answer and you wonder if God is going to do anything. When you don’t see God at work right here right now, you need to remember what he’s done in the past. You also need to trust Him for what He will do in the future. Romans 8:25 (NIV) says, “But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.”

Losing muscle strength is one of the quietest crises of aging, and one of the most consequential. Researchers think a compound hiding in aged garlic may be worth watching as one piece of the solution. A compound called S-1-propenyl-L-cysteine, or S1PC, found in aged garlic extract, sets off a chain reaction in fat tissue that eventually signals the brain to help preserve muscle strength in aging mice. In middle-aged people given a single dose, S1PC raised blood levels of a key protein tied to this process. Rather than acting on muscle directly, S1PC appears to work through fat tissue, triggering a molecular signal that travels to the brain, which then communicates with muscles through the nervous system. Researchers have been searching for ways to slow that muscle decline through drugs and lifestyle changes. S1PC did not appear to trigger fat breakdown, which suggests the compound targets a very specific molecular pathway in fat cells rather than broadly disrupting how they work. Garlic has always had its enthusiasts. Now science may be giving those ancient claims a precise biological explanation.

Today, National Heat Awareness Day is an effort by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the National Weather Service to alert workers, employers, and the public at large about the health dangers related to heat, in order to reduce the overall rate of illnesses and deaths caused by it. Many outdoor workers or laborers are at risk of serious heat-induced conditions like heat exhaustion, dehydration, heatstroke, and even death. Groups that are especially vulnerable to heat are outdoor workers, young children, elderly adults, people with chronic medical conditions, and pregnant women.

Worry doesn’t work, it just exaggerates the problem. Worry is something you learned. Since worry is unnatural, it’s also unhealthy. God made you, he created you, he saved you, and he put his Spirit in you. He’s going to take care of you. God personally cares about you and for your needs, so give your worries to God. 1 Peter 5:7 (GNT) says, “Leave all your worries with Him, because He cares for you.”

Today is National Senior Health & Fitness Day, and its main goals are to promote senior health and wellness nationwide, and to encourage older Americans to do everything they can to stay healthy, fit, and safe. Although it is impossible to stop aging, there are ways for older adults to stay healthy and fit for as long as possible. Moderate physical activity helps older people to maintain muscle strength, reduces the risk of cardiovascular conditions, helps to cope with anxiety, reduces fall risk, and has many other health benefits. Adults aged 65 and over should aim to be physically active ever day, even if it is just walking to the nearest store, around the block, or to the kitchen to make a cup of tea. It is also recommended to do light exercise that improves balance, flexibility and strength at least twice a week. The exercise doesn’t have to be rigorous; yoga, pilates, tai chi and swimming are great examples of exercise suitable for older people.
