FAQ
WHAT IS A LOTION BAR?
Made with natural oils and butters that moisturize and repair skin, combined with beeswax (or candelilla wax for vegan friendly) to form a bar of lotion that stays solid at room temperature or lower. When applied to the skin, body heat will slightly melt the bar.
The oils and butter can be infused with herbs and/or healing flowers (I will be doing this over the summer) to gain additional properties that benefit the skin. Essential oils can also be added for additional skin benefits.
HOW DO I APPLY A LOTION BAR?
Rub the bar directly onto your skin. You can also rub the bar between your hands to melt the oils and then rub into other areas.
Best time to use it is out of the shower, after towel drying, while your pores are open and skin is warm.
HOW LONG WILL THEY LAST?
Since they are concentrated, a little goes a long way. It will depend on how often it’s used, and how much of the body area it’s used on.
The shelf life depends on ingredients, most are shelf stable minimum 1 year, so I put a “best by” date of one year from when I make them, but they may be shelf stable much longer, some up to 5 years.
HOW DO I STORE LOTION BARS?
I sell my lotion bars in aluminum tins; it’s the easiest way to keep them stored.
Tins are easy to transport; put it into your purse to take with you.
Since the best time to apply is after shower and towel drying, the tin protects the bar from bathroom bacteria.
Above 98°F could melt the bar, but at least the liquid is contained in the tin.
Just put it in a cool space to bring it back to solid form.
You can also keep it in the refrigerator, just remember it might take longer to melt on your skin since it’s colder than room temperature.
