This week, we’re celebrating the people behind Wingate Pharmacy, and the patients (and pets 🐾) who remind us why the work we do matters.

Eric has trusted our team for more than a year to prepare compounded medication for his dog with cancer. His words say it best:

October is American Pharmacists Month!

At Wingate Pharmacy, our pharmacists do more than prepare medications. They listen, problem-solve, collaborate with providers, and help find personalized solutions for the unique needs of our patients, including the four-legged ones!

Compounding is about recognizing that sometimes one size simply doesn’t fit all, and our pharmacists bring knowledge, precision, and care to every prescription they prepare.

It usually means your provider decided a standard, commercially available medication doesn’t quite fit your needs.

Maybe you need a specific strength, a different form like a liquid or cream, or a medication made without certain dyes, fillers or other ingredients.

That’s where compounding comes in. Your prescription is prepared based on your provider’s instructions and your individual needs.

They ate the treat…and left the pill. Again.

You hid it in cheese. You tried peanut butter. You tucked it inside their favorite treat. Somehow, they ate everything except the medication.

For pets who are difficult to medicate, a traditional pill isn't always the easiest option.

Veterinary compounding allows a pharmacist to prepare a prescribed medication in a customized form, strength, or pet-appropriate flavor when appropriate which can make medication time a little easier for pets and their people.

If giving your pet their medication has become a daily struggle, talk with your veterinarian about whether a compounded option could be a good fit.

You fall asleep just fine… then suddenly you’re wide awake at 2 or 3 AM wondering why your body has decided we’re done sleeping. 😩

If this started happening in your late 30s or 40s, hormones may be part of the conversation.

As hormone levels begin to shift during perimenopause and menopause, some women notice changes in sleep along with things like mood, energy, hot flashes, or brain fog.

At Wingate’s Pharmacy, we work with women and their providers to prepare customized BHRT (Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy) when prescribed, with formulations and strengths tailored to individual needs.

If your sleep, or just the way you feel in general has changed lately, it may be worth asking your provider whether hormones could be playing a role.

Happy National Dog Day! 🐾

Dogs are more than pets...they're family. They're there for the happy moments, the tough days, and everything in between, offering unconditional love with every wag of their tail.

When your child has a reaction to a medication, it's easy to assume the active ingredient is to blame. But in some cases, it could be the dyes, preservatives, fillers, gluten, lactose, or other inactive ingredients.

For children with certain allergies or sensitivities, those ingredients can make taking medication more challenging.

The good news? When prescribed by a healthcare provider, compounded medications can often be prepared without certain dyes or unnecessary additives to better meet your child's individual needs.

Because every child is different, and their medication can be, too.
