🍽️ Community Gatherings = Great Food… and Smart Food Safety!
Whether it’s a picnic, potluck, festival, or family cookout, food brings us
together — but safe food handling keeps everyone healthy and happy.
As you gather with friends and neighbors, keep these food safety and
allergy awareness tips in mind:
🧊 Keep it cold, keep it hot
Cold foods should stay chilled, and hot foods should stay hot. Don’t let
food sit out too long (the 2-hour rule is your friend!).
🧼 Clean hands = safe hands
Wash hands often, especially before handling food or eating. Hand
sanitizer is helpful, but soap and water are best.
🥗 Avoid cross-contamination
Use separate utensils and plates for raw meats and ready-to-eat foods.
No “double dipping” at the buffet table!
🚨 Know your allergies
If you’re hosting, label foods clearly and ask guests about allergies ahead
of time. If you’re attending, don’t be shy about speaking up — your safety
matters.
❤️ A little extra care goes a long way in keeping our community
gatherings safe for everyone.

May is Blood Pressure Awareness Month
High blood pressure is often called the “silent killer” because it usually has no symptoms—but it can lead to serious health problems.

Tip 1: Know your numbers
Normal blood pressure is typically around 120/80. Getting it checked regularly is one of the easiest ways to protect your health.

Tip2 : Cut back on sodium
Eating too much salt can raise your blood pressure. Try choosing fresh foods, reading labels, and limiting processed snacks.

Have you been following along with our H5N1 awareness series? Here’s a quick recap to help you stay informed and protected:

Feel free to pause our reel and read along!!

H5N1 primarily affects birds, but it can spread to humans through direct contact with infected animals or contaminated environments. While the risk to the general public remains low, taking simple precautions can make a big difference.

Tips to stay safe:
• Avoid contact with sick or dead birds
• Do not handle wild animals or poultry without protection
• Wash your hands thoroughly after being outdoors or around animals
• Cook poultry and eggs to proper temperatures
• Report unusual bird deaths to local authorities

If you work with poultry or livestock, be sure to follow recommended protective measures, including wearing gloves and proper gear.
Staying informed helps keep our community safe.

For questions or concerns, contact the Brown County Health Department.
Together, we can reduce the risk and protect public health.
