Here’s the thing this influencer claimed: all you have to do to flatten your tummy, is lay on this ball.
The best part? She only showed herself lying on the ball. Not the after.
Then she went into very basic fascia statistics that are easily found on Google.
I’m not here to say she’s 100% wrong. I’m here to say that making extreme claims (to go viral) about losing the “pooch” by doing this one magic thing is extremely harmful.
Not just because it’s false but because people like this are specifically targeting an insecurity that our culture shames CONSTANTLY.
Ladies (and gents), we already live in a culture where no matter how a woman’s body looks, she can’t win.
Too soft? She’s lazy.
Too muscular? Ew. Manly.
Still holding weight in the trunk? Shame on you.
THIS HAS TO STOP
I say this all the time in my treatment room because I have seen thousands of clients over the last 7 years…
You and ONLY you are living in and experiencing your body.
The way it heals, moves, breathes, and processes big events is unique to you and you alone.
There is no room for judgement there.
Our bodies are so intelligent.
They will do everything they need to do to maintain stability for what is going on inside of YOU.
So here are the things that are true from that original post I mentioned:
1. Releasing your diaphragm will help increase fluid flow which can reduce inflammation.
2. By releasing your diaphragm, breathing mechanics can improve and the pressure system between your throat, diaphragm, and pelvic floor will strengthen and regulate.
3. This can aid in eventual fat loss by simple helping the nervous system down regulate and find a level of homeostasis (ie: safety)
What this does not do:
1. this does not burn fat.
2. This is not an overnight miracle.
3. This will not magically balance a system that took 9 months to change, expand and adapt. It. Takes. Time.
I hope this is helpful.
Your body is not broken because of how it chose to heal from growing an entire LIFE.
