Once you’re ready for a little more movement after a C-section, gentle floor stretches can help restore mobility and ease tension through your back and core.

Cat–Cow is a great place to start. This slow spinal movement paired with deep breathing helps reconnect your core and improve flexibility through the spine.

You can also add a thoracic spine stretch over a foam roller to help open the chest and mid-back, which often become tight from feeding, holding baby, and protecting your incision. No foam roller? A rolled towel placed along your spine can create a similar stretch.

Move slowly, breathe deeply, and let your body guide the range of motion.

For the full recovery timeline and more exercises for each stage of healing, read our C-Section Recovery Guide on the Archer PT blog. Link in bio.

Once your body is ready, gentle movement can be one of the most helpful things for recovery after a C-section.

Simple stretches on the bed can help reduce stiffness, improve circulation, and gradually restore mobility through your core, hips, and spine after surgery.

The goal isn’t to push through discomfort. It’s to move slowly, breathe deeply, and reconnect with your body as it heals.

Even a few minutes of gentle stretching each day can make a big difference in how your body feels during the early weeks postpartum.

We outline when to start, how to progress, and what exercises are safe in our full C-Section Recovery Guide.

After a C-section, even something as simple as lying flat can feel uncomfortable or intimidating.

That’s why we recommend starting with gentle diaphragmatic breathing in a semi-reclined position, then gradually working your way toward lying flat as your body allows. This helps your core, diaphragm, and pelvic floor reconnect while giving your incision time to heal.

Many women find that spending just 5–15 minutes lying flat while breathing can help reduce tension, improve mobility, and support early recovery.

The key is progressing slowly and listening to your body.

If you’ve had a C-section recently (or even years ago), we walk through the full recovery timeline and exercises in our C-Section Recovery Guide.
