Patsy had no known heart condition when a spontaneous coronary artery dissection, or SCAD, caused a serious heart attack in October 2024. After two weeks at Vanderbilt University Hospital, she joined a support group led by Lauren, a social worker at Vanderbilt Health.

"Talking with the other women who have had heart attacks and especially my type of heart attack, it's helped me to not feel so alone," Patsy said.

Her group, along with another for adults with congenital heart disease, became a virtual art circle. Patients quilt, crochet, cross-stitch and paint at home, then send their work to be displayed at the Vanderbilt Heart and Vascular Institute. Patsy made a quilt with a heart at its center. ❤️

Vanderbilt Clarksville Hospital has moved to Epic, an electronic health record system that connects our care teams with the rest of Vanderbilt Health.

For patients, that means the care team at Vanderbilt Clarksville Hospital now has a more complete picture of someone’s medical history and past care.

Our teams spent months training and preparing for the switch. Experienced Epic users and technical experts are on hand throughout the hospital as everyone settles into the new system.

This year’s Greater Nashville Heart Walk raised more than $1.5 million in its fight against heart disease and stroke. More than $93,000 of that total came from 86 Vanderbilt Health teams.

The annual walk, organized by the American Heart Association and sponsored in part by Vanderbilt Health, drew thousands to Geodis Park on Sept. 27. The event raises awareness and funds for research, advocacy and CPR training to combat heart disease and stroke.

On July 5, after three years of dialysis, Harold got the call he'd been waiting for: a kidney was available.

Harold, who has lived with HIV for nearly 40 years, became the first patient at Vanderbilt Health to receive a kidney from an HIV-positive donor. Transplants like his help people living with HIV get an organ sooner and free up other organs for patients still waiting.

"I'm grateful to the donor and their family for making that decision," Harold said.

Today his HIV is controlled, his lab numbers look good and he's planning trips out West and into the mountains. "I'm feeling great," he said.

In Harold's words, he's "just lucky to have a second chance."
