✨ NASHVILLE FIT FRIDAY: MEET ASURY ✨

Born in Panama City, Panama, Asury has called Middle Tennessee home since the late ’90s—but her fitness journey didn’t begin until 2020.

After a knee injury led her to yoga, what began as a way to heal became a passion for strength, mobility, longevity, and mindful movement. Today, Asury teaches at On the Mat Pilates & Yoga Studio and Humble Heart Yoga Studio in Clarksville, while also sharing free, full-length classes through her YouTube channel, Yoga with Asury.

Yoga also helped Asury recognize and recover from years of burnout, giving her tools to slow down, reconnect with herself, and better regulate her nervous system.

And her story is proof that it’s never too late to begin: Asury started practicing yoga at 32 without a sports or fitness background. Now, at 38, she feels stronger, moves better, and has more energy than she did at 28. 💪🏽

Her advice: Keep exploring until you discover movement that genuinely energizes you. Fitness doesn’t have to look one particular way—find what makes you feel good and keep chasing that feeling.

🧘‍♀️ MEET ASURY TOMORROW! Asury Johnson

Sometimes the Strongest Thing You Can Do Is Let Someone In

Why movement matters, why gym community matters more, and why none of us is meant to muscle through life alone.

By Jen Spice

September is Su***de Prevention Month, and I want to start it without a polished little wellness speech tied up in a bow. Mental health is not always pretty. Sometimes it looks like getting through the day while nobody around you has any idea how heavy that day actually feels. Sometimes it looks like being the dependable one, the funny one, the busy one, the one who keeps the calendar moving and everyone else taken care of — while quietly running on fumes.

I know what it is like to walk into a fitness space carrying more than a gym bag.

When I was going through my divorce, I was teaching at CycleBar. As an instructor or coach, you do not get to bring all of your pain to the podium. People walk into that room needing you to be the cheerleader, the hype woman, the one who tells them they can do hard things. So I would turn it on. I would smile, grab the mic, raise the energy and give everyone else what they came for — even when I was barely holding myself together.

Beyond the Athlete: Dr. Justin Harrington’s Approach to Sports Medicine

When most people hear “sports medicine,” they picture professional athletes, torn ACLs, and injuries that happen under stadium lights. For Dr. Justin Harrington, sports medicine is much bigger than that.

Recently relocating to Tennessee after completing a sports medicine fellowship in Rochester, New York, Harrington brings a perspective to Hughston Clinic Orthopedics centered on movement, quality of life, and helping patients return to the activities that matter most to them.

Growing up in Southern California, Harrington eventually attended medical school in Indianapolis before returning to California for his orthopedic residency. It was during his training that he found himself drawn to the mechanical nature of orthopedics.

Unlike areas of medicine that primarily rely on medications to influence what is happening inside the body, orthopedics allowed Harrington to address a problem physically.

The transformation was never just the 50 pounds. It was realizing what she was capable of. 💪

Sarah Henricks spent years believing she wasn’t athletic — that fitness was about getting smaller and that certain spaces simply weren’t for her.

Then the goal changed.

Getting smaller became getting stronger.
Group fitness became strength training.
Strength training became Strongman competitions.
And somewhere along the way, fitness became part of who she was.

Now, as a mom, wife and working professional, Sarah isn’t chasing a “final version” of herself. She’s showing her son what it looks like to choose your family and still choose yourself.

Because maybe transformation isn’t reaching the finish line.

Maybe it’s realizing you can keep moving the goalpost. 👏

A Transformation Story: From Shrinking… to Strongman

By: Blake Harris

My perspective on fitness changed when I became a gym owner.

I stopped looking at fitness as a single destination and started seeing it as a spectrum of capability. From Group Fitness to One-on-One sessions. Everyone fits in somewhere, and the goal isn’t to force everyone into the same lane and stay there. It’s to figure out where they are, meet them there, and give them a path forward.

That’s progress. That’s when transformations happen.

Gyms shouldn’t just provide a place to work out. They should be a place to progress—a place where today’s limitations aren’t tomorrow’s limitations.

Meet Sarah Henricks.

When I first met Sarah, she was balancing motherhood, marriage, and a full-time job. She started in group fitness. Group fitness became an open gym membership. Open gym became strength training. Strength training became Strongman competitions.

Growing Pains: The Reality of Scaling a Business | Ground Up Podcast

How fast should your business grow?

On this episode of the Ground Up Podcast, Terry Barga and Vanessa Hampton dive into the realities of business growth and why growing faster isn’t always better. While rapid growth can sound like the ultimate goal, it can also bring increased stress, difficult decisions, operational challenges, and pressure that can impact both business owners and their teams.

Terry and Vanessa discuss how to recognize when your business is growing too quickly, the challenges that can come with scaling too fast, and why finding the right pace of growth can be the key to building a stronger, healthier, and more sustainable business.

They also talk about the importance of having the right systems in place, understanding your capacity, and making intentional decisions that allow your business to grow without sacrificing quality or your own well-being.

The Blind Spot in Athletic Injury Prevention: Why Athletes Ignore Dental Health

You devote countless hours to preventing injuries, strengthening muscles, improving mobility, and investing in protective equipment. Yet dental health is often overlooked. Oral health in sports can affect far more than your smile, influencing comfort, nutrition, recovery, and overall well-being. From dental trauma during contact sports to dehydration, sugary sports drinks, and neglected routine care, you face several oral-health risks that deserve the same attention as any other part of injury prevention.

Why Oral Health in Sports Deserves More Attention

When you think about sports injuries, you probably picture sprained ankles, torn ligaments, broken bones, or muscle strains. You may not immediately think about your teeth. However, your mouth can be just as vulnerable during certain activities, particularly when you participate in contact, collision, or high-velocity sports.

Participating in football, boxing, hockey, basketball, cycling, gymnastics, skiing, skateboarding and equestrian sports carries a risk of injury. The American Dental Association recommends using mouthguards to protect against dental and orofacial injuries — injuries involving your teeth, lips, cheeks and tongue.

Are You Ready for Change? The Role of Discipline, Faith & Growth | Music City Mindset

Change can be scary—but it can also be the beginning of something greater.

In this episode of Music City Mindset, hosts Blake Harris and Evan Butler talk about what it means to be ready for change, even when the next step feels uncertain or uncomfortable. They discuss why growth often requires stepping outside of your comfort zone, staying disciplined when motivation fades, and trusting the process through faith.

Blake and Evan dive into the mindset behind embracing change, building discipline, facing fear, and continuing to move forward when you don’t have all the answers. Sometimes the biggest breakthroughs happen when you’re willing to take that first step.

If you’re going through a season of change or looking for motivation to take the next step, this conversation is for you.
