Yale New Haven Children's Hospital is hosting a Pediatric Spina Bifida Patient & Family Retreat!

The Spina Bifida Program team invites caregivers and patients to join for a day of educational sessions regarding the transition to young adulthood and adult medical care. The Retreat will feature our own Executive Director, Drew White as the keynote speaker, and will also include a brief urology presentation with one of our wonderful Board Members, Ahmad Bani Hani, MD, pediatric urologist and Urological Director for the Spina Bifida and Transitional Care Programs at Yale New Haven Hospital.

✨ A Research Study Opportunity ✨

The Accessible Smart Tech Lab at the University of Pittsburgh’s Department of Rehabilitation Science and Technology is seeking participants for their "Voice of the Consumers with Disabilities on Mainstream Technology Survey". The purpose of this study is to understand the experiences of persons with disabilities using smartphones, apps, smart home technology, and wearable technology, including barriers and supports to technology use, education/training needs, and digital literacy.

We are excited to share with you all, and give a brief introduction to our 2026 Educational Conference Keynote Speaker - Donna Cruz Jones!!

Donna was born with Spina Bifida in the U.S. territory of Guam. She served two terms on the Spina Bifida Association National Board, and served multiple terms on the advocacy board for Duke Children's Hospital in Durham, NC.

Donna has worked as a staffer on Capitol Hill twice, and has worked for multiple political campaigns on the state and national level. She also served as the Americans with Disabilities for McCain Coalition Coordinator and was a Staff Assistant for Veterans for McCain Coalition.

In 2019, Donna was invited to testify before the House Appropriations subcommittee on Health Education and Labor as a representative of the Spina Bifida community.

Advocating for herself and those in the disability community is of the utmost importance to Donna, and she enjoys educating herself about the ADA, Medicare, and legislation pertinent to her community.

Prior to her political experience, Donna served as head of customer service training for large retail organizations. Outside of her philanthropy work, Donna was also a competitive weightlifter and specialized in the bench press. She currently resides in New York City, NY. Donna believes disability is a natural part of life, and advocating for the inclusion of all disabled individuals in society is of the utmost importance ....and we couldn't agree more!!

We look forward to welcoming Donna to our Conference, and are thrilled to have her partnership!

🦘 History was made this weekend in Sydney! 🦘

Sending along a huge congratulations shoutout to two of our friends and wheelchair racing champs, Daniel Romanchuk and Tatyana McFadden! They both worked incredibly hard and landed podium placements at the 2026 TCS Sydney Marathon!!

Daniel took home the win in the men's division, and even set a new course record of 1:26:50!! Tatyana also crushed it with a 3rd place finish in the women's division, with an incredible time of 1:51:08!!

Well done, athletes! We hope they enjoyed their time spent in the "Land Down Under", and wish them safe travels back home to the USA!! 🥇🥉

🐚 10 days ago, a 30-runners-strong Team SBAGNE tip-toed the start line, and made their 7 mile journey along the beautiful Cape Cod coast to complete the 54th annual Falmouth Road Race!! It was a warm, and beautiful sunshiney day, and I think it's safe to say we're all still riding the waves of excitement from an incredible race!

We wanted to give a huge THANK YOU shoutout to everyone who helped cheer our runners on, lifted their spirits, and supported them every step (and mile!) of the way. 💙

With your help, Team SBAGNE currently sits at an incredible $51,000 (!!!) raised - but the tide hasn't gone out on our fundraising just yet! The race to fundraise will remain open through September 30th, so there’s still time to help make waves for Team SBAGNE and our spina bifida community!
