How to Clean a Clogged MDI (Metered Dose Inhaler)

Has your inhaler stopped spraying properly?

The mouthpiece may just need a good cleaning. Follow these simple steps:

1. Remove the metal canister from the plastic holder. Do not wash the metal canister.
2. Remove the cap from the mouthpiece.
3. Rinse the plastic holder and mouthpiece under warm running water for 30 to 60 seconds.
4. Shake off any excess water and allow the plastic holder to air dry completely. If you need to use your inhaler before it’s completely dry, ask your pharmacist for guidance.
5. Once completely dry, reassemble the inhaler and replace the cap.

💡 Cleaning your inhaler at least once a week can help prevent medication buildup and clogs, helping it work properly when you need it most.

These instructions are for metered dose inhalers (MDIs) only. Dry powder inhalers (DPIs) should not be cleaned with water.

First, it releases oxygen into your pores. The bacteria that contribute to acne don’t thrive in an oxygen-rich environment, so this helps reduce the number of acne-causing bacteria on your skin. It also helps unclog pores by removing dead skin cells and excess oil, making it harder for new pimples to form.

A few tips if you’re just getting started:
• Start with a lower strength, such as 2.5% or 5%, to help minimize dryness and irritation.
• Use a moisturizer if your skin becomes dry.
• Be careful around towels, pillowcases, and clothing because benzoyl peroxide can bleach fabrics.

Have you ever looked in the mirror after taking Pepto-Bismol and thought, “What happened to my tongue?” 😳

Don’t panic! A black tongue after taking Pepto-Bismol is a harmless and temporary side effect. The active ingredient, bismuth subsalicylate, can react with small amounts of sulfur in your saliva. That reaction forms a dark-colored compound that can temporarily stain your tongue (and sometimes even your stool).

The discoloration isn’t dangerous and usually goes away within a few days after you stop taking the medication or brush your tongue. However, if you notice black stools without taking Pepto-Bismol or iron supplements, or if you’re having severe stomach pain or bleeding, it’s important to contact your healthcare provider.
