We have such an amazing staff! Last Thursday Scott and CJ were planning on representing TSCN at the SOAR corn roast while I (Tammy) ran the Sensory Super Squad. But an emergent situation came up at the club and Scott couldn’t make it. CJ jumped right in and took over for us recruiting her daughter to help. That’s the kind of staff we have. They are dedicated and invested. We so appreciate EVERYTHING they do to make sure our customers have an excellent experience.

🧠 Last week was Praxis Week for the Sensory Super Squad!

What is praxis?
Praxis is the brain’s ability to come up with an idea, figure out how to do it, and then carry it out with the body. It’s what helps kids navigate new activities, use their bodies effectively, and participate more independently in everyday life.

After a short lesson on praxis and motor planning, we put it into action.

🖍️ First, the kids drew a picture of themselves.
Then they participated in activities that provided pressure touch and heavy work input before returning to draw themselves a second time.

The difference between the first and second drawings was remarkable.

Some children who wouldn’t even hold a marker the first time were able to actively engage in drawing the second time. Kids who drew during the first round often added noticeably more detail to their second picture.

And it wasn’t about creating a “better” picture.

It gave us a chance to see how sensory processing, body awareness, and praxis can influence a child’s ability to organize their body and participate in an activity.

By the end of the session, parents had a much clearer understanding of their child’s praxis skills—and we saw children who were more engaged with the activity, their environment, and the people around them.

This is why understanding what is happening underneath a child’s participation matters. Sometimes the question isn’t “Can they do it?” but “What does their nervous system need to help them access it?”

🚀 This week is our final week of the Summer Sensory Super Squad! It has been incredible watching both the kids and their families build understanding together throughout the session.

Our Fall Sensory Super Squad begins September 24 and runs for 8 weeks. Registration is already filling, and space is limited.

Sensory Super Squad is an engaging parent-and-child program for elementary-aged children. Together, families will learn:

⭐ How to recognize individual sensory patterns
🧭 Practical tools and strategies to support participation at home and in the community

Parents gain a better understanding of their child’s sensory needs while children explore each concept through movement, activities, and play.
