Happy First Day of Summer from HCD ☀️🫶

We know you've heard it before but it was worth a notification ... Wear your sunscreen that is SPF 30 or higher, and don't forget to reapply every 2 hours when you're outside. We love summer but we don't love sun damage.

Which button are you choosing?

👍 On it!

🙄 Thanks, Mom

Myth or Fact? "Tanning helps hide vitiligo"

MYTH! Tanning often makes vitiligo patches appear more noticeable because the surrounding skin darkens while the lighter areas do not. We definitely don't recommend tanning for patients with vitiligo because those depigmented areas are more susceptible to growing a skin cancer.

It's time for another "A Word from Your Derm" featuring Dr. Purser.

“Vitiligo is an autoimmune condition where the skin’s pigment-making cells (melanocytes) are being inappropriately damaged by a person’s own immune system. To treat, we typically use topical anti-inflammatories to calm down this immune response.”

It is important to remember that you do NOT have to treat vitiligo and that all skin is beautiful - but if you wish to treat it, there are many options. 🫶

Have you ever heard of Vitiligo?

Vitiligo is a chronic autoimmune condition that causes the loss of pigment-producing cells in the skin, resulting in lighter patches of skin and hair. It can affect people of ALL ages, skin types, and ethnic backgrounds.

While vitiligo isn't contagious or life-threatening, it can have a significant emotional & social impact on those living with the condition.

This month, we're sharing facts, treatment options, and resources to help increase understanding and awareness of vitiligo. 🫶

Better late than never, right? It’s been a ~busy~ month with transitioning to our new Electronic Medical Record system (thank you for your patience everyone!) but we had to still honor our May Employee of the Month, Megan! She makes great connections with patients, is a very fast learner (which will bode well for her in PA school) & is always a positive team member. Thank you for all you do, Megan!
