🧹 Spring Cleaning, but the Mental Kind!

Well, it’s that time of the year. Bins are pulled out of storage and winter clothes are tucked away for the coming summer months and we might be noticing ALL the things we’ve “just set somewhere” - intending to find a place for them at that tempting and elusive time of “later.” It’s so very easy for us to accumulate “stuff” without even thinking about it. Over time, it can be hard to let go of what is no longer serving us, or to even look at the mess. Sometimes items are nostalgic or hold sentimental value, while other times we wonder if we would regret getting rid of it in the future. Or maybe it just takes too much energy to even THINK about tackling the chaos. We can do the same thing to our mental and emotional baggage too, if we don’t take the time to do some “mental spring cleaning.”

Taking time to recenter and re-order our minds and bodies is a longstanding practice across human history and many cultures. Focusing on breathwork, little rituals, and intentional practices like journaling and setting mini-goals are all examples of ways we can help our minds and spirits move from chaos to a little more order and inner calm. If you would like to read more about this practice and how you life - both inner and outer - can benefit from it, click the link in our bio to read the full article!

🕊️ It’s our four year anniversary...
..as a recognized International Peace Site! This Spring, we are committed more than ever to be a beacon of hope and healing for our community. The World Citizen Peace Organization recognizes our clinic as an International Peace Site because we strive to practice and uphold five core values:

1. Seeking peace within yourself and with others

As we seek peace as a clinic community, we are cultivating a space where people can feel welcome to bring their struggles and suffering into a healing, therapeutic relationship. Our providers aim to help folks reorder life - finding more peace and stability in both their inner life and in their relationships.

2. Reaching out in service

We recognize that there are some problems that are too large for one person or organization to solve. So, we practice service by giving to nonprofits that support people in other ways beyond mental health. And we show up for each other in times of struggle, too.

3. Protecting the environment

We see the Earth as more than just a resource to be extracted, but as our home and supporter of life. We seek (imperfectly, of course) to make choices that honor and protect our planet - whether around AI use, or other small daily choices that add up to make a difference over time.

4. Respecting diversity

Part of what makes us humans so wonderful is all the diversity we bring to the table! Different cultures, abilities, ethnicities, sexual orientations and identities, religions, and spiritualities all contribute to the kaleidoscope of human flourishing. We're stronger and better as a collective when we can each be our authentic, complex, whole selves.

5. Being a responsible citizen of the world

Living in turbulent times requires a commitment to responsibility, education, and practicing respect and lovingkindness towards one another - even those with whom we disagree! Being a responsible citizen means we strive to see our neighbors through eyes of compassion, and while our ability to contribute to epic, global change is limited, we bring every ounce of our beings to make a difference in our little corner of this world.

🎓 Finals Season and Graduation

For students of all ages, summer schedules are right around the corner, but not before the final exams, projects, and ALL the stress that can come with that final push. Therapists and psychiatric medication support is available at Minnesota Clinic for Health & Wellness to help you navigate this time of transition, uncertainty, and intensity. Graduates find themselves stepping beyond their familiar rhythms into figuring out the “unknown.” Students of different ages wrestle with how to balance it all and manage the pressure. Whether you have tried therapy before or are considering getting support for the first time, we are here for you in the midst of these challenges. We have next-day appointments available, and now is a great time to reach out and get connected with a therapist. The progress you make over the summer can carry into next school year (or into life beyond school!) - building habits and routines that can make what lies ahead less stressful (and more enjoyable!). If you are a Minnesota student whose schedule makes in-person appointments difficult to attend, our therapists have virtual options as well! To schedule your first appointment with us, please give our front desk a call. They are happy to get you connected with a caring therapist who will meet you right where you’re at on the journey!

🔵 Maternal Mental Health Awareness Month

In May, we recognize the need for mental health support that many new parents have after a pregnancy. Postpartum depression (PPD), anxiety, and other perinatal mental health disorders are prevalent in as many as one in five mothers. In our own article, we explain some of the ways societal expectations can make these symptoms especially challenging to navigate.

“Society often expects new mothers to be overwhelmingly joyful and fulfilled, which can make those experiencing PPD feel ashamed or inadequate. This stigma is fueled by misconceptions that PPD is a sign of weakness or a lack of maternal instinct, leading to guilt and isolation. Many mothers fear judgment from family, friends, and even healthcare providers, worrying that they will be seen as unfit parents, being perfect or raising their child in a specific way.”

If you or someone you love can relate to this, we’ve got your back! We have multiple types of whole-person resources for new parents dealing with perinatal mood and anxiety hardships - and we continue working to raise awareness and reduce stigma surrounding this very real issue. At Minnesota Clinic for Health & Wellness, our compassionate therapists and medication prescribers are here to be a support for all things parenting. If you want to meet with a clinician or read the full article on Maternal Mental Health Month, please visit our website! We are here for everyone at any stage in their parenting journey.

🌎 Earth Day

This planet we live on has sustained countless human generations by sharing its land and water with us. In return, humans have collaborated with Mother Earth in a mutually life-giving relationship over many thousands of years. More recently, we see how our disregard for the natural world is leading to a degradation of the precious gifts from the Earth. What we forget, senselessly, is that we, as humans, are PART of nature! We are part of this ecosytem that is both delicate and resilient. We are called to respect the air we breathe, to protect the health of rivers and lakes that make Minnesota so special, and to preserve the existence of our green, living oxygen producers - who root deeply into the rich soil. As we reflect on how special the Earth is, we also want to lead in our care for it, showing the same compassion for the planet that we show ourselves. After all, the Earth has been the perfect place for our ancestors to live, flourish, and experience love, so we should continue to steward it for future generations to come as well! Our choices matter. Let’s celebrate this beautiful planet, and live like our lives depend on it!

🔼 Honoring Your Values, Together.

Part of a fruitful therapeutic process is having clarity about what guides us along the path. Whether you are working through anxiety, relationships, or are seeking to build new habits into your life, orienting around your deeply held values points us in the right direction. Many of our therapists love to navigate identity exploration, spiritual and existential questions, and deepening a healthy sense of self worth. Or, if you want to incorporate healthier bodily habits into your growth, functional nutrition experts can partner with you to support those goals. We help you clarify the values that serve as your compass, and we walk with you as you align your life with the direction that these values point. This provides a solid foundation—partnered with research-backed approaches—for your therapeutic journey.

🙆‍♂️ What is Holistic Mental Health?

Have you ever wondered why it can feel so hard to get “unstuck” or experience lasting changes in your sense of wellbeing? Maintaining a healthy, balanced life is often more than learning a few coping tools for anxiety or eating a colorful diet. Yes, those minght be important elements, but holistic health begins by understanding how the brain, body, and human spirit are all connected with each other AND with our wider environment and relationships. When your care encompasses more than just your mind on the path to flourishing, the benefits can multiply. Here, for example, we can boost depression treatment with exploration of movement, relationships, and nutrition - or even incorporate occupational therapy to get honed in on little, doable changes to help you function more effectively day-to-day. At Minnesota Clinic for Health and Wellness, the whole person is welcomed into a therapeutic space of connection and healing.
