When "You Have More to Do"
Became "You Should Be Doing More"
"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." — Jeremiah 29:11
This week, I survived anaphylactic shock after being stung by several wasps.
Within minutes, my body began shutting down. I wanted to move, but I couldn't. I could barely speak. I was turning blue. Today, I'm alive.
And that truth has been difficult to absorb.
As I've processed everything that happened, I've realized something.
This wasn't just about surviving a medical emergency.
It uncovered a story I've been living for years.
About ten years ago, after another severe allergic reaction, I sensed God whisper these words to my heart:
"You're okay. You're not alone. You have more to do."
Somewhere along the way, I changed His words.
Instead of hearing...
"You have more to do."
I began hearing...
"You should be doing more."
Those are two very different messages.
Over the past few years, I've lost a career I loved due to health, sold the farm that held so much of my heart and soul, got married, started a new job that provides security but doesn't fully align with my core values, and rebuilding my health.
From the outside, people see the logo, the horses, the workshops, and the dream.
What they don't see is the grief.
They didn't see me wondering who I am without the life I'd spent over twenty years building.
Looking back, I don't think I was chasing a purpose.
I think I have been running from the fear that I would never matter again.
But God has never spoken to me through fear, guilt, or scarcity.
His message always began with His presence.
"You're okay."
"You're not alone."
Only then came...
"You have more to do."
Perhaps that is the "more" God spoke about all those years ago.
Not accomplishing more.
Not striving more.
Not proving more.
But becoming MORE of the woman He has been shaping through every loss, every transition, every unanswered question, and every unexpected beginning.
The truth is... Purpose isn't something we earn. It unfolds as we faithfully walk with the One who has never left our side.
If you are are walking through a season where everything about your identity seemed to change, I hope this encourages you.
Your greatest loss doesn't have to be the end of your story. God's plans are never interrupted. We just can't see the whole story yet.
