An allergy diagnosis does not always mean it is forever.

As children grow, their immune systems are constantly learning and adapting. What may trigger a reaction at one stage can shift over time, sometimes becoming more manageable or even fading altogether.

At the same time, new environments and experiences can introduce different triggers, which is why symptoms may change as your child gets older.

Understanding that allergies can evolve helps take some of the uncertainty out of the process and allows for more flexible, informed care over time.

The death of NASCAR racer Kyle Busch last week at the age of 41 came as a shock to the sports world – as did the news that his death was the result of severe pneumonia that led to sepsis in his lungs. Many people don’t realize sepsis is a medical emergency that requires fast action. The best way to protect yourself and your loved ones is by knowing the warning signs and seeking immediate medical care if you suspect an infection is worsening: http://ynh.care/1mQ

Last year, Leo went through the fight of his life, cared for by Yale New Haven Children's Hospital's pediatric intensive care unit and hematology oncology teams. He underwent a bone marrow transplant for severe aplastic anemia, along with treatment for a rare fungal infection that required several interventions from the pediatric surgery team. After such a challenging and fragile time in the hospital, it’s wonderful to see that Leo is now a happy, thriving teenager in 7th grade! His mom recently sent a photo and a note expressing deep thanks: “Can you send this to all in the PICU and tell them THANK YOU for helping our guy get his life back. Forever thankful.” Cheers to the incredible teamwork and dedication of everyone involved in Leo's care and our patients' care every day at the Children's Hospital.

Employees, medical staff, Yale New Haven leaders and community partners came together today to celebrate Yale New Haven Hospital’s Bicentennial during a special event honoring the hospital’s 200 years of service, innovation and commitment to the community.

The celebration featured a ceremonial flag raising, a proclamation from the City of New Haven and a community BBQ that brought colleagues, guests and local leaders together in recognition of this historic milestone.

We also extend our thanks to New Haven Mayor Justin Elicker for joining the celebration and recognizing Yale New Haven Hospital’s enduring impact on the New Haven community over the past two centuries.

The BBQ is part of a year-long bicentennial commemoration that includes a dedicated website, storytelling videos, historical exhibits and other events highlighting the hospital’s legacy. To learn more, visit http://ynh.care/1mt.
