Maybe you need to hear this today…
Stop looking around.
Stop checking where everyone else is, what they’re doing, how quickly they’re moving, what they’ve accomplished, what they look like, what their life looks like.
I think we forget sometimes that big seasons of change can feel really isolating. You might want to pull away. You might crave more time alone. You might feel like you’re not quite yourself. *And that isn't something that needs fixing*
In a world that profits from telling us how we are doing everything wrong - just give yourself grace.
Maybe some seasons are meant to get quiet enough for you to reconnect with the parts of yourself that got lost somewhere along the way while you were busy taking care of everyone else.
Something I've been dwelling on this summer that I think we get wrong…
We assume that reconnecting with ourselves has to look like slowing down.
And for some people, that IS exactly what they need. But for others, processing happens through movement. (Hi...this is me)
Through work, exercise, creating, through getting outside and moving their body until their thoughts finally catch up. What brings one person peace might make another person feel completely stuck in their own head.
There isn't one right way to move through change. You have to learn what actually works for YOU. And that's hard to do when you're constantly looking sideways.
Because we're living in a world where comparison is practically built into everything. We wonder why we're not further along, why we don't look like that, why our business isn't there yet, why our relationships don't look like theirs, why we can't seem to get it all together.
But you weren't meant to. You weren't meant to have their life. You weren't meant to move at their pace. You weren't even meant to process life the way they do.
So maybe today, give yourself permission to stop looking around long enough to figure out what you actually need. Maybe you need to rest but maybe you need to move....create, work, be alone, be around people....
Listen to yourself instead of everyone else.
And if you need a reminder of how far you've come, look backward—not sideways.
Look at who you were six months ago because the height of the high often equals the depth of the low. Growth isn't always comfortable, and sometimes the seasons that stretch us the most are the ones that bring us back to ourselves.
So breathe. Look within more.
And please remember… You do not have to become more like everyone else. You just have to become more fully YOU.
