🫛 Pink Eye Purple Hull Peas

Southern heat doesn’t mean the garden has to stop producing. ☀️🌱 Pink Eye Purple Hull Peas love warm weather and give you something valuable in return: real food from your own backyard.

🫛 Plant-based protein supports muscle and tissue repair
🌿 Fiber supports digestion and helps with fullness
💜 Folate supports normal cell growth and red blood cell formation
✨ Iron helps the body transport oxygen
🌱 Magnesium supports normal muscle, nerve and energy functions

Learning to grow nutrient-dense foods is about more than gardening—it’s learning how to nourish yourself from the soil up.

Grow what you eat. Eat what you grow. 💜

Who grew up eating purple hull peas?

🌱 Companion Planting

A healthy garden is an ecosystem, not just a collection of plants. 🌱💜

Companion planting can help you create a more diverse garden while putting a wider variety of nutrients on your plate.

🍅 Tomatoes → vitamin C, potassium + lycopene
🌿 Basil → vitamin K + beneficial plant compounds
🥕 Carrots → beta-carotene, which the body converts to vitamin A
🧄 Garlic & onions → sulfur-containing plant compounds
🥒 Cucumbers → hydration + vitamin K
🌽 Corn → carbohydrates for energy + fiber
🫘 Beans → plant protein + fiber + folate
🥬 Lettuce → hydration + vitamins A and K
🔴 Radishes → vitamin C + fiber

Biodiversity in the garden can become diversity on the plate. 🌎🌱

Save this before your next planting day and send it to somebody growing their own food.

🌿 Grow Vertically

No big backyard? Grow UP. ⬆️🌱

Vertical gardening lets you turn fences, trellises, balconies and small yards into productive food-growing spaces—and what you grow can contribute something different to the plate.

🥒 Cucumbers: hydrating and provide vitamin K
🍅 Tomatoes: provide vitamin C, potassium and lycopene
🫛 Peas: provide fiber, plant protein, folate and vitamin C
🌱 Beans: provide fiber, plant protein, folate and minerals

Growing vertically isn’t only about producing more in less space. It’s about making fresh, nutritious food more accessible—even when your growing space is limited.

Which one would you put on your trellis?

🌱 ONE PLANT. MANY WAYS.

We’ve been taught to look at plants as one-dimensional. Basil is seasoning. Garlic goes in food. Aloe goes on the skin. Turmeric is a spice.

But when you learn the plant, you begin to see possibilities instead of products.

🌿 A plant can become food.
☕ It can be prepared as a beverage.
🧴 It may have practical household or topical uses.
🌱 It can be grown, harvested, dried, infused, preserved, powdered or replanted.

That’s the lesson: the plant didn’t change—the method did.

Our ancestors learned how to use what grew around them in multiple ways because that knowledge meant nourishment, resourcefulness and greater self-sufficiency.

Imagine what happens when we start teaching our children to recognize a plant, grow it, harvest it, preserve it and understand several ways it can be used.

That’s knowledge you can carry anywhere. 💚

KNOWLEDGE TRANSFORMS PLANTS. PLANTS TRANSFORM LIVES.

Which plant should we break down next—showing exactly how to transform it from its raw form into several useful preparations? 👇🏾

🌿 HEAVY METAL “DETOX”: WHAT CAN FOOD ACTUALLY DO?

What nutritious green foods can do is support the systems your body already uses every day. 🥬💚

🌱 Leafy greens provide fiber and micronutrients.
🥦 Cruciferous vegetables provide compounds involved in normal cellular processes.
🌿 Herbs like cilantro and parsley add plant compounds and nutrients.
💧 Adequate hydration supports normal kidney function.
🌾 Fiber helps move waste through the digestive tract.

And this brings us to something important for the next lesson: mobilizing a substance and actually eliminating it are NOT the same thing. Your body needs pathways to process, transport, bind and ultimately excrete waste through routes such as stool and urine.

The goal isn’t extreme cleansing. It’s learning how the body actually processes and eliminates substances—and supporting it with good nutrition. 🌱

🌱 FIBER DOES MORE THAN KEEP YOU REGULAR.

When we hear “fiber,” most of us immediately think digestion—but there’s much more happening inside the gut.

🥣 Soluble fiber absorbs water and can help support healthy cholesterol and blood-glucose levels.

🌿 Insoluble fiber adds bulk and helps keep things moving through the digestive system.

🦠 Fermentable fibers become food for certain gut microbes. As those microbes ferment fiber, they can produce short-chain fatty acids—including butyrate, an important energy source for cells lining the colon.

So when you eat beans, lentils, oats, berries, vegetables, whole grains, chia and flax…

you aren’t only feeding yourself. You’re feeding an entire ecosystem. 🦠🌱

That’s one more reason plant diversity matters: different foods provide different fibers and plant compounds.

💬 What’s your favorite high-fiber food?

📌 Save this for your next grocery trip and share it with somebody building a healthier plate.
