Hard. Challenging. Exhausting. But also incredibly worth it. ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿป

Nobody tells you how much motherhood changes you โ€” your identity, your relationships, your body world. And there can be grief and loss and struggle with those things that I think we just don't talk about enough. But there's also joy, curiosity, wonderful, and fun. Every day and every season I experience thes these two things- highs and lows, hills, and valleys. You can love something without loving every minute of it. You can really struggle but also be grateful for what it os. You can hold all of those feelings at the same time.

So whether its navigating working in the home or out of it, appreciating your postpartum body but not loving every inch of it, or sending your kid off to the first day of kindergarten or the first day of college... you are not alone. We are all in this together. ๐Ÿ’›

Straining like this puts downward pressure on your pelvic floor that compounds over time. That pressure is one of the biggest contributors to prolapse and prolapse symptoms getting worse! So how can you fix it?

You need to support your perineum while you go!

Here's how:
1๏ธโƒฃ Place your hand or a small folded piece of toilet paper against your perineum - the area between your va**na and re**um - and apply gentle upward support while you bear down.

2๏ธโƒฃ This takes the strain off your pelvic floor and gives your tissues the support they need during one of the most high pressure moments of your day.

It's only fitting that we compare a donut to the human body on international donut day, right?! ๐Ÿฉ

Your va**nal opening of your pelvic floor has to stretch up to 10 centimeters (aka the size of a donut you get at your local shop!!!) during va**nal birth, if you ask me, that's not a small ask from your body. And yet, most birth prep focuses almost entirely on swaddling the baby and your options for interventions, while pushing, breathing and the pelvic floor get completely overlooked ๐Ÿ˜ญ

As a pelvic floor PT, this is what I want every pregnant person to know: stretching and relaxing your pelvic floor before birth is just as important as strengthening it. Your tissue needs to be able to open, yield, and recover and that's a skill you can actually train for!

Whether you're pregnant, postpartum, or just learned something new today, your body deserves that preparation since now you have the education ๐Ÿ™Œ
