On September 10th at 7:30 pm, PHL17 in Philadelphia, along with stations in Erie, Altoona, Harrisburg, and Wilkes-Barre, will be airing and live-streaming a 30-minute program titled "Stronger Together: Community Conversations on Su***de Prevention."

Here are some facts that might surprise you: in 2025, an estimated 13.9 million adults aged 18 and older had serious thoughts of su***de in the past, 4.9 million made a su***de plan, and 2.3 million attempted su***de.

Talking openly about su***de can feel uncomfortable, but staying silent can leave people feeling even more alone. Open and honest conversations create space for people to say what they’re really feeling, ask for help, and know they don’t have to navigate difficult moments by themselves. Sometimes, simply asking “Are you okay?” and being willing to truly listen can be the beginning of someone getting the support they need.

Anna Caplan is an undergraduate summer intern at the David Farber ASPIRE Center. She is currently studying Psychology at the University of Rhode Island. Anna chose to complete a summer internship at the ASPIRE Center because she has prior experience working with at-risk youth and wants to continue expanding her knowledge of evidence-based practices for su***de prevention. Anna says that the best part of her experience has been supporting our social work and education team with outreach and community events.

Gavin Rigby is an undergraduate summer intern at the David Farber ASPIRE Center. He is currently studying Psychology and Environmental Studies at Swarthmore College . Gavin chose to complete a summer internship at the ASPIRE Center because he wanted a hands-on experience working in a su***de prevention specialty clinic. Gavin says the best part of his experience so far has been working and learning from such dedicated staff!

Last week, Maddi and Julia from the ASPIRE Center attended an open house hosted by the Philadelphia Children's Crisis Response Center. During the event, our team had the opportunity to connect with community partners, tour the facilities, and learn more about the critical services they provide to children and adolescents experiencing behavioral health crises.

We're grateful for the opportunity to strengthen our partnerships and collaborate with organizations that share our commitment to supporting youth and families across Philadelphia. Thank you to the Philadelphia Children's Crisis Response Center for hosting such an informative and welcoming event!
