I hear this so frequently and I am so so passionate about dispelling this myth that artists are just innately born with the gift of art.
Sure, there may be some people who have a natural talent for things, but most people you see succeeding at any skill took years of dedication and straight up struggle to get to that point. So many of us experienced rejection after rejection. Hearing critiques that we had to remove our own emotion from in order to evolve our art.
I know so many art friends who went through the same mindset but kept pushing. Art has a way of calling you back to keep trying. Even if it's bad. We all have imposter syndrome, even your favorite artists.
And am I the all knowing, perfect artist to be speaking on this? No. Absolutely not. I still make bad art. I still have so much to learn and improve on. But one thing I do know? I won't improve if I don't try. And I wouldn't be where I am today if I gave up before even starting, thinking I just didn't have the ability in my body.
Remain teachable. Seek out critique from people who's art you admire. We'd be nowhere without the artists before us.
The world needs more art, and we need you making it.
